What’s your name (optional) and/or your Midnight Ridazz log-in name?
Jesse but everyone knows me as Aktive, Reverend or Aktive_420

How did you first hear about Midnight Ridazz and what was your first group bike ride?
People were noticing me at the local bike shops when I'd be getting tubes or service on my bike but they never saw me out on group ride. One day some dude asked who i ride with and i answered alone. He again asked me but elaborated as to which group rides or clubs i rode with.. once again i answered Alone. I didn't know about MR til he said i should check out a group ride and make some friends and stop riding alone cause "it's more fun to ride with others" i was told.

Currently what rides do you attend regularly and what ride(s) would you like to see make a comeback?
I try to attend

MoM Ridaz Rides get prioritized with me when time allows
FMLY
Ride With No Name
Bike Oven's Spoke n Art
The OLD LACM Back to the Basixxx
C.R.A.N.K when they appear
Beastside Mosey

I wish Critical Mass would come back without sponsors and an LAPD escort and a million volunteers... so we can just ride freely with a different leader every month.

What advice would you pass on to new ridazz?
Don't give up. That hill is just a challenge. Those miles to get to your destination isn't an inconvenience its another reason to ride your bike.

If you don't want to get fucked with by cops, don't fuck with them.
Wear a helmet and carry lights and don't be cool, carry a LOCK!

If you were leading a group ride, what would you do differently?
I just would want to avoid bringing unwanted attention to the ride from law enforcement

Do you prefer small rides (30 or less people) or larger rides and why?
If i'm partying it doesn't matter to me how many are riding along.. the more the merrier i say. If i'm doing miles i'd prefer less that way we concentrate on riding and less on stopping and partying.

Tell us about the best and worst experience you’ve encountered on a group ride.
hmmm nothing has ever really sucked for me while riding. Except getting slammed into by a car July 2010 and being hospitalized... nothing serious.

The best experience will always be when MoM Ridaz were on their way to the westside FMLY TEST RIDE #1 and i was excited to go. I had never ridden to the west side before. They told me we were going to crawl over a period of 3 hours to get there and had nothing to worry about, although by the time we left we had 30 minutes to get there. they told me they would understand if i didn't want to race over there being my 1st time and all.. but if i went they would make sure i wouldn't fall too far behind. They rocked, i was proud to have made it in 30 minutes from ktown with the likes of Xray and Fabian and a few others. Then later that night people i had never met made sure i got eastward safe and sound and kept encouraging me to keep peddling, gave me rest and water stops when i needed and got me to 3rd and vermont without a hitch by 6am... THANKS JOSH and TURTLE you guys have a special place in my cycling heart! The MoMs and the Aglago folks really made a great west side voyage for my 1st time a memorable one.

What did you do for fun before you started “riding”?
I used and still hike from time to time and try to climb rocks considering i have a fear of heights, i love it.... and of course i still love to get stoned.

What’s the best and worst thing group bike rides have done for cycling as a whole in Los Angeles?
One of the best things is that they get people out of cars and the usual bars and clubs where people are used to having a good time and have shown the residents of the cities they roll through that there are alternative ways to have fun without leaving carbon footprints and at the same time their own bodies benefit.

Worst are those rides that become reckless and chaotic to the point that law enforcement has to inject themselves into them eventually disrupting them. The rides end up being confrontational with motorist leading to injuries.

If you can name 1 person who embodies the spirit of “Midnight Ridazz”, Who would it be and Why?
Unfortunately i cannot just leave this to one person. There are individuals, groups and rides which themselves become an entity; all contributing to the greatness of the cycling world in LA some call midnight ridazz. From MR, to MoM to FMLY to Sins to TT to RWNN they all rock and somehow all embody the spirit of being a Midnight Ridazz

What do you think the public’s perception is of group bike rides?
I think the public still has its mixed feelings about cyclists. Some tend to still deal with rude cyclists that cut them off and are reckless in their manor of riding, conversely they ridaz have also had to deal with rude drives and what not, but its a work in progress and i do see more tolerance from both sides. together we can coexist.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
This isnt a past time, its a lifestyle. With that said, we all should have that passion to be involved in the various communities we participate in whether its cycling, church, school, clubs , lifestyle , family or neighborhoods. We all enjoy the fruits of many people's labor from the ride, to the lanes to the events so why dont we participate in giving to others: Get involved somehow, im sure you have something wonderful to offer your communities .

And remember I can always be reached if you need me to help with something... my phone numbers are everywhere online as well as my email.
