BRIDES OF MARCH! - RIDE #87
Thread started by Joe Borfo at 03.2.11 - 4:29 pm

START TIME: 9pm - Depart at 10pm sharp

LOCATION: TBA

BEWARE THE BRIDES OF MARCH!

WEAR YOUR WEDDING BRIDAL BEST.

"Something borrowed, something new, something lacy, something blue"?

A bride-zilla fest complete with a bridal shower, ceremony, and reception all wrapped up into one ride.

We're all going to be the blushing brides.
Only our bikes can be the grooms.

It's OUR night, dammit!!!

Get your wedding dresses at your local thrift stores -
St. Vincent Du Paul / Out of the closet / Goodwill / etc.
No spectators, please! (At least wear something lacy!)
There will be incentives for dressing up like a poofcake.

2nd Friday Midnight Ridazz rides are slow paced and fun ride for all types of riders.

- We will be respecting all road rules, leaving no trace, and no rida left behind.

- Bring a working bicycle, front and back bike lights, and necessary tools to be prepared for this ride.

- A Wedding Dress is also highly recommended for maximum fun.

If people can't figure out a dress, just make sure to wear a white top. Borrow your girlfriend's slip or something. I will have a bolt of fabric we can make veils for a limited number of people at the start. There will be prizes for those with the most outrageous outfits.

For those willing to go full out - the garment district bridal skirts aka
petticoats http://www.mygowns.com/mefupe1.html and hoop skirts http://www.mygowns.com/hoopskirts.html for $20

If you don't have a bridal dress get one from a thift store.
Or go to Maple St between 8th and 9th downtown. They have tons of cheap accessories, tiaras $2, gloves $5, tule fabric for $1/yd.
Or steal your little sister's Quinceañera dress. She's not going to wear it again anyway.

Bridal attire is MANDATORY.
Only pervs cum to watch guys dress up without participating.

If for some reason you can't get your shit together, then come to Hollenbeck park early at 8pm.
We'll have some tule fabric to put on your helmet and/or around your crotch. A limited supply of fab bonus items if you are early.

Bring some safety pins, old spare tubes or something to attach the bridal fabric to your body or we'll staple it to your ballzz.

1. WEAR A WHITE TANK TOP AND SHORTS

2. GET A SHEER OR WHITE SHOWER CURTAIN YOU ARE WILLING TO CUT UP.
(99 CENT STORE)
A. WRAP A LARGE PORTION AROUND YOUR WAIST AND USE AND PUT A BELT AROUND IT TUCKING TH TOP PART OF THE SKIRT UNDER YOUR BELT.
B. TIE A SMALLER PORTION TO YOUR HEAD WITH A CUT UP OLD INNER TUBE LIKE A HEAD BAND THROUGH THE GROMMIT HOLES.

I'm glad I was able to make it out. I had a blast and I am now also the spouse of my bicycle.

Thank you to theroyalacademy for the spearheading route, spokecards, music, ideas and hard work. To Esther for helping in everything, Nathan Snider, The Reverends for the blessings, Marino for the 50 yards of fabric and stuff for everyone, and to all the participants that made this ride a success!

I really had no involvement except for that I simply dropped the idea and you guys ran with it. I loved the minibike races, cake eating, spoke card, dresses, even the route. And Beth Willow rocked the George Michael. <3

I hope future 2nd Friday Midnight Ridazz can remain as this sort of collaborative shared project and planed at least a couple weeks in advance to make for an awesome and memorable outcome.

PLEASE POST PICS AND VIDS!

Ride On!

I started making of list of everyone who helped out and it became really long and I was worried that I still forgetting people so I will just say THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this possible. It is a lot more people than those who Borfo listed, including several people who couldn't even make the ride who still graciously agreed to bake cakes or contribute in other ways. I thought it all went really well and that was because it was a big group effort. I do, however, want to single out Esther, for doing many, many, many things -- mostly behind the scenes -- to make this happen. So thanks to her and thanks to everyone.

Sorry about the late start. I just received so many calls saying people were going to be late that I let go of my usual persnicketiness regarding punctuality in an effort to make sure that everyone who wanted to be there was. But, I agree, that is ultimately unfair to all the people who do show up on time.

And, while I do wish those guys on the bike path had slowed down when those of us at the very front warned them as they passed, we could all still do a better job staying to right.

And, since people were asking, here's the playlist from last night. Not sure how much we heard of it, since the music bike fell while we were getting it over that bridge with the stairs and the iPod started the playlist over from the beginning at that point.

Furthermore, here's a zip file of some of the music we heard (about a fifth of it), which I already uploaded when Borfo was going to lead the ride. I'm not going to take the time to upload the full playlist, but if anyone remembers a specific thing they heard that is not in that file and can adequately describe it to me, I can get it to you. (Or, you know, you could just find it on the internet.)

I return from the dead and so happy Brides of March was the ride I did.

The route was well lit and freshly paved for most of it, and that makes such a huge difference.

Smallest MR I've been to ever, but beautifully done, Thanks royalacademy and thanks everyone for keeping to the right (mostly) wearing vails, and working together to make MR great, just like old times!

Thank you all, great ride.
I bailed at the fountain cause it was close to home and I was getting sleepy.
I did half the ride and got home at 1am. That's late.

I'd agree with Harry that meet at 8, leave at 9pm is more reasonable. If people are running late they should be given the location of the first stop to meet us there.

Again, I agree with leaving on time.

But I want to be the voice of dissent on an earlier start time. This is MIDNIGHT Ridazz, not Early Evening Ridazz. I know we are all getting older and have other commitments that make staying out late difficult, but exploring the city in the middle of the night while everyone else is asleep is part of the experience -- a vital part of the experience, I would argue. It may not be "reasonable," but it is worth it.

OK Well here's what we do. Leave a note for late comers to where to meet/catch up, even someone's phone number - possibly, and then with German like precision - leave on time!

If the rides actually did that it wouldn't take long for folks to get the message, otherwise it's like the parent who keeps threatening the kids but never follows through.....

Okay, sorry for the million posts on this, but I've got a couple more things to add:

One, I want to make it clear that none of the people who called and said they were running late asked for me to hold the ride for them. None. Every one simply asked where they should meet up. It was my decision alone to wait for them. Just don't want any confusion about that or for it to seem like I am blaming other people for the ride starting so late. It was my decision.

And, two, it should be said that a lot of my inspiration for last night came from talking to Muff about some of the early rides. She really stressed that they tried to have an integration of theme, route, and some sort of performance or spectacle. That really isn't something that many rides I've been on have had and I wanted to try to make that happen. Borfo's bride idea seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Honestly, when I started riding, the paradigm was riding from one 7-Eleven to the next. And that quickly grew old (for everyone, I think). But, still, too often the big rides simply are a matter of riding a little and then standing around and drinking a lot. I want to encourage others to think bigger, to be more ambitious.

Quoth Skidmarcus:

"I am motivated solely by the fact that I firmly believe we are an art movement. We need to spell this with capitals. The Midnight Ridazz Art Movement of the Early 21st Century. Why are we different? I can’t speak for other ride organizers but for me - I am only interested in ride concepts. Socializing, drinking, and exercising are bonus features of this Art Movement, but I want the concept, the setup, the giant expressive social machinized chaos I can provide you as a Ride Artist. If you don’t know what I’m saying, come find out. We are pioneering Art right underneath your sleeping cars. We don’t care if you bike to work, just ride it to the party. We’re a modern graffiti movement, except after we get our kicks in, we’re leaving no trace. Join us."

Truth.

Thnx to Sean & company. Best MR in a looong time. Ppl should go the royal academy to learn how it is done. Awesum route and execution of a theme. These rides are not just rides, if you were there you would know that. Again, many many thanx for an epic ride, the ceremony, the cakes, all of it was truly brilliant, a real throwback to the good ol days of social rides in this city, but at the same time im thrilled to see the progression here. Many thanx!!!

A couple people asked me where i got my bike songs from that i played at the last stop, here is where you can find them.

http://riotfolk.org/?m=adhamhroland

they are free all you gotta do is right click and download. The songs I played were called Shoulder and Bicycle ride.

The non Adham Roland stuff I played was Andrew Jackson Jihad, Mischief Brew, Minor Threat, Nina Simone, Massive Attack, Blitzen Trapper, and I think the other artists name was George Michael I just cant say for sure :)
I wish I could download a playlist for you guys, but I have no idea how to.

Thank you so much too all of you, that was the best wedding ever. Got home at 5am and the whole ride back just talked about how amazing everything was from the music down to the route and the people. Borfo and Harry, dancing with you too at the last stop was priceless. Buckchin, thank you for the record!!! Mateo, thank you for the CD, I am speechless. Rev. Dak and Mook, thanks for marrying us to our bicycles. Harry thanks for pulling the music being British with me, you fucking cunt.
