Hello Kiddies!

I looking to generate interest in doing some downhill rides/races on 16" kids bikes.

My projected date is the 3rd Friday night of Feb (the 17th) unless things change.

There would be a few simple rules to keep it fun:

1. You must have a 16" kids bike that is unmodified. There is high end gravity bike racing out there, we're low end. It would be easy to make a bike faster by upgrading but that would fly in the face of the overall theme which is to have loads of fun on a shoestring budget. Also, even if you're 6'3 you have to hunker down on the same Hanna Montana rigs that we all have.

2. Your bike should cost less than 15 dollars, better if it was free or dug out of the trash. Pink is the new whatever, but I expect to see lots of pink bikes on white tires at the start line.

3. You will be responsible for having a light set up, and protective gear. You may crash and roadrash sucks so use your best judgement.

4. Most importantly the goal is to have fun, do not take this seriously.

Feedback is encouraged, I'm going to be scouting hills in the next couple weeks and get the first date off the ground, we'll see if there's interest after that point. We can do it once a year, or once a month depending on the interest. There are loads of hills to be bombed we can make this mild to wild depending on what people want. Of course if I don't get at least 6 riders then I guess it will be a one time thing as I have a lot of other events on my plate already and I'd rather go for quality over quantity.

Thanks!
See you on the hill.

Where are you planning to have this? Sounds really fun.
(please have it somewhere near civilation ie not the north valley! Haha)

I was thinking Laurel or Cold Water canyon towards the West side. At night. I can't leave town, my business ventures keep me 818 grounded which I'm fine with.

I guess we'll do the last friday of the month of Feb if that works better....

As with anything even quasi-competitive there is a desire to improve your chances of being the fastest even in the world of who's 16" bike is fastest: Spider Man, Hanna Montana, Little Mermaid, Barbie etc. I will say that one can adjust your bike so it fits you as best as it can but swapping out tires and bars, then escalates into hubs and custom built wheels and fearings and 60 dollar ties, and then you're just another gravity racer. I've already been down this road with the soapbox and we have guys out there that have spent 1000's on their cars, I want to avoid that. I want to avoid spending 5 dollars on my bike. Your bike should be something that you're willing to bend in half, throw away, get crunched by the tow van, taken by the cops etc and you have 5 more just like it lined up for the next adventure.

We're looking at the last Friday of Feb, or a Thursday night perhaps? Let me know.

Downhill rally on 16” kids bikes.

Rules of play:

Your bike must have 16” wheels and must be in a stock configuration. No upgrades except the addition
of a caliper (the shittiest kind) style

brake may be added. No other upgrades or altering of stock equipment including tires may be made to
the bikes. You can of course adjust

your seat/stem/bars/brakes to your liking, not like it will help. We want to avoid an escalation of riders
throwing money into bikes that should

cost no more than ten dollars. Your bike should be a bike that can be easily replaced and will often be
adorned with cartoon characters or

images of pre-teen pop stars, in other words: junk.

You are responsible for lighting, we are going to be doing night runs so good lighting is important.

You are also responsible for your protective gear, helmets are mandatory, and everything else is
encouraged.

We will be going down hill in masse; bike handling skill and a lack of self-preservation are paramount in
this endeavor.

Meeting at 9pm at the intersection of Laurel Canyon and Mulholland. There is parking on adjacent
streets. We roll at 9:30 don't be late. We are going to go down to the west side and end at the light where the
little store is (kirkwood) there you bank to the right for an easy run off. Lots of twists and turns but it's not
very steep so don't expect to go that fast. There are much faster hills but for the first one. best we do
something mellow.

The secondary reason for this event is to destroy as many of these 16 things as possible. I have a 4x8 sheet of plywood in my backyard that is chest high with these bikes, They need to die...gloriously.

I don't want people to spend real money on this nor have it become too competitive, it ruins the fun. The Portlanders have as usual taken something simple and fun and fucked it all up, I want to avoid that.

Bring lights, front and rear and a skid lid, I can only provide so much. They are first come first serve. Or you can swing by the shop and pick one up. I will not hold shit for anyone, no.

Did I mention that everyone that completes the rally gets a sticker?

Everything you do has some risk to it, driving to work is more perilous than this activity. If you stay in your lane (you should) and use your brakes when you need to you should be fine. Keep in mind it's not a race, you win by completing the activity, not by risking your neck to "beat" someone. I've ridden down much steeper hills on faster bikes and come away clean. I can only imagine that many of you have ridden bikes down hills too, that's all we are doing. The most you'll fall if you do would be the height of your bike which is small. Wear a helmet (mandatory) and armor up as you see fit. I'd say those of you that are afraid have seen too many news programs, perhaps you should stay in your cocoon never to live life. I'm aware of the risks, it's up to the individual to assess these risks. I for one have decided for the cause of fun it's worth it.

Well longer is always better, we can also connect streets together for a longer run. Ok bitches. You think that you are hard. You may have some cool tattoos or some interesting facial hair or have lots of not real friends on face book, but let's face the facts: If you have not done bomb squad yet you are a pussy. All you little bike crews out there spend way too much time maxing your mustaches or sticking another patch on your vests, it means nothing. Taking a Hanna Montana bike and pointing it down hill in the dark of night, this means something. So, let's see what LA has to offer, any takers? Afraid? The first hills are easy, you'll have to stop texting for a few moments but for once, you'll feel alive. We dare you.

Feb 15th

Griffith Park Drive, meet at driving range 8pm gather, 9pm depart.

If you have not heard of this before here's the spiel:

Downhill rally on 16” kids bikes.

Rules of play:

Your bike must have 16” wheels and must be in a stock configuration. No upgrades except the addition of a caliper (the shittiest kind) style brake may be added. No other upgrades or altering of stock equipment including tires may be made to the bikes. You can of course adjust your seat/stem/bars/brakes to your liking, not like it will help. We want to avoid an escalation of riders throwing money into bikes that should cost no more than ten dollars. Your bike should be a bike that can be easily replaced and will often be adorned with cartoon characters or images of pre-teen pop stars, in other words: junk.

You are responsible for lighting, we are going to be doing night runs so good lighting is important if not critical to your survival.

You are also responsible for your protective gear, helmets are mandatory, and everything else is encouraged and we have found it has made the difference between a crash you could laugh off and one where you get carried off.

We will be going down hill in mass; bike handling skill and a lack of self-preservation are paramount in this endeavor.
