The last 24hours of my life have been quite a fucking adventure....
To start, I was at the kitchen last night volunteering with Moi and Arlen and some others shooting the shit with Luz and Sophia and all is well. They all take off to go home after work. Suddenly Luz comes in and is crying. Some gangster robbed her for her bike and punched her in the face when she tried to resist!! it had happened at vermont and melrose while she was at the bus stop. Moi and I immediated jumped on our bikes and headed in the direction of the thief east on melrose.
Moi and I were looking up and down side streets and when we got to virgil I spotted the motherfucker hightailing it across at clinton!! We took off after him and he turned right on hoover heading towards temple. He saw us coming and he was riding along side a black sedan with CA plates. The funny part was him not being able to keep his feet in the pedals cause it was fixed gear. Hahaha we were yelling at the dude to drop the bike and at the car that we got the plate number which I think scared the car into taking off.
Long story short Moi and I out hustled the guy, surrounded him and he dropped the bike pretending to have a gun in his pocket. It was sketchy and I wasn't sure where that car went but with headlights coming at us I pulled my ulock and Moi came up from behind. He took off and left the bike. So we grabbed it and brought it back. The good guys win every once in a while!! Ps. Bike thieves, you aint gonna out run wolfpack regulars bitch. Hahaha. Dude was TIRED.
Next.... I'm rolling along wiloughby today with my nifty camera mount and stop motion going and just as I'm approaching ideasculptor's pad.... a car smashes into a parked car and tries to drive away! His right front wheel is jacked so he gets stuck before the end of the block and I'm right there telling dude that I got it all on film he's fucked. Turns out according to his roomate it was Sam's fuckin car that got hit!! He might not even know yet. I got it on film bro!
Wow that's fucked up shit. Great that she got her bike back. Hope she's OK. Nice job on tracking this shit hole down too. I really think that dude was faking it though. If he had a gun he would have pulled it on you guys without thinking about it. If he punches a girl like that, he wouldn't even think of pulling a gun.
@user1 yeah man The whole time we were chasing the guy and the car, he was faking like he was pointing a gun and we were rolling south under the 101 and hoover which is unlit sketchy part of town so if he didn't pull the trigger then we knew he didn't likely have a gun but shit man who knows maybe a knife or pepper spray it was still sketchy when you are cornering somebody.
Oh my god!!! I'm glad you guys were there and able to hunt down that asshole... I can't believe he fucking punched her in the face! I was against carrying around mace or something before... now I'm thinking maybe it's not such a bad idea.
shit I was at the kitchen last night at 9:15pm before we rode down to the Chinatown mosey. Turning right at Vermont off of Santa Monica. Good thing we went in pairs.
I know I know it would have been nice to just beat the shit out of the dude but really we were just glad that we could get the bike back and it was sketchy wondering if his friends were going to be back with more friends and who know what else... best to let the guy run away like a bitch.
turns out these guys were actually kicking it last night across the street from the bike kitchen casing the place.
he couldnt have been more than 20 years old. his friends left him, but they might have been back. Moi and I were just happy to be on our way.
this made me happy... but only because a bike wasn't stolen and finally the good guys can notch a victory on their collective belts. way to go man... now if only we can get more people to be like this.
'course... next time, remember that guy could have had a pistol and you could have lost your life over a bike.
I should've ran into the kitchen crying last night when I went back to my bike to discover the rear wheel missing. I've seen a couple of fixed gear/messenger-ish riders riding around carrying a third wheel from time to time. I didn't think anything of it and just gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Stolen from the bike racks in front of 555 S. Flower @ 6th/Flower.
DTLA. To the person who stole it, bring it back to me so I can stab you in the face.
Damm
Shit like this brings out the worse in me...I would have fucked him up.
Damm Raymond, it really sucks when it happens to good peeps..
Do you have any distinc info on whell(decal, mark?)
As rad as it is that that fool learned a lesson about fucking with the bike people. It's really a bummer to think about anybody doing that to Luz in the first place.
ok so i had i long thoughtful reply that discussed violence against bicyclist, over reactions, etc... but it somehow disappeared.
so lets just say please think about where you ride....its a big city! shit happens. and lets be thoughtful and not reactionary to what happens out there. really retractable batons, pepper spray, u-locks to the head? are these our solutions to what are really more endemic problems in my/our fair city?
big ups to roadblock for being the first out the gate and for having my back while i had his. my fist totally wanted to introduce themselves to this dipshits throat so i understand where people are coming from when they talk all this big game, but lets see it for what it is, a release of frustration masked behind a veneer of internet anonymity. its real out there and lets not propagate violence.
this may not make a lot of sense and there is more that i wish would not have been erased but for now this will have to do.
lets look out for each other but also not be so rash about it. this incident breaks my heart but only because it such a familiar story.
@Franz:
"Rad story, was it Sams car. If so that is a pretty long run of bad luck."
Yes, it was my car, and you have no idea how long a run of bad luck it has been. My life has been like a bad country song for a couple of months, now. Having my new car smashed while I wasn't even home is merely par for the course.
How's about we propagate "chain-gangs" for retarded gang-wannabes and their real-counterparts?
Sheriff Joe Arpaio doesn't seem to give a rats-ass about what people think of his "hard-times" policy, and it's scaring the criminals and would-be's straight enough out in Phoenix.
I probably sound like some hardcore Republican, but I just think when it comes to crime, it's time for the idiotic lawmakers to quit handing out chances like they're "prizes from a Cracker Jack box".
If time and resources are being spent to keep some petty-third offender in classes on "how to be a decent person" for the 4th time around, then something's wrong.
Just the fact that the asshole hit a girl makes me wish you u-locked him to death and say he tripped...but i'm glad you got the bike back and for the most part she's okay. :D
Not going to lie though, I kinda got a boner reading this.
