What an awesome ride! Thanks to some guy, he was wearing a black bandanna, who helped my friend with her flat tire.
Also I didn't get a spoke card :-{

HEY! i didn't get a spoke card either! and i need one in my life. :)
so does anyone know what happened with the girl that got arrested on the ride last night?
I heard that she got arrested for running a red light by herself, but that was hear say.
did anyone know her or see what happened to her bike?
anyways, the "LET HER GO!" chant was awesome but didn't work... of course. and what's up with the cops not giving us their badge numbers when we asked for it?
that situation separated a lot of people= no circle of death at H&H. so sad. but, the cops were ridiculous last night. first they arrest that girl then they kick us out of ralph's. way to be an asshole and a half.

I stopped when she (Karla) got arrested and took pictures and made sure they saw me with my camera so they wouldn't even think about using excessive force. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but you never know. Her bike is fine, everyone is fine, we all continued riding and caught back up afterwards! Haha.
As for spokecards, I was walking around, yelling for a good ten minutes trying to get everyone one.
And H&H circle of death, it did happen! :)

By the way does anyone have my iPod? I lost it at/ around Pan Pacific Park AGAIN. This time it's in a purple pouch that buttons and has a zipper underneath. There's my iPod, headphones, cable, and something that plugs into the iPod for the stereo inside.

The girl that got tackled, the one on the yellow hardtail mtb, was handcuffed and was seated in one of the police cars for almost an hour. About 10 riders or so stood there taking pictures and filming and even a few people on foot and tourists came to protest as well (and provided footage). Some of the bike riders spoke out and did a fine job. Finally the supervisor of the cops showed up and ordered them to release her with a red light ticket. She initially was so shocked she was not in pain but after a while she was complaining of some pain from the takle. I hope she is doing ok. I hope she posts her so she can get some advice as to what to do now.

yeah the girl was linda on the corner of Hollywood & Cahuenga. It was unfortunate timing, i was riding next to her, the cop stopped right ahead of the intersection and just opened their doors. seeing that i yelled stop but she kept going. and the officer blind grabbed her causing her to fall off her bike.
the cuffs weren't probably necessary, just the heat of the action.
she got a ticket and ended up at the park from the last i heard.
so a lesson to all, don't be stupid, especially in front of a cop no matter what everyone else is doing. you only have to be the last one.

So I was hoping someone else was going to mention something about the massive impound fiasco last night, but so far nothing.
Anyhow, don't need to hear how people should ride and not drive to rides, I already know I really should have known better/looked harder for warning signs (hell, it took a while to spot them for the towing service # when we got back!). I feel a little less of a fool knowing that more than 10 vehicles were towed from Rite Aid shortly after we rolled out. We had about ten in our little pack heading to the impound lot and met more there.
Being stuck at the back of the lot I was the last to leave, and the supervisor tried to offer the friendly warning that that lot had been gunning for cyclists' cars for about a year. ?!?
That was my first ride out from that location, was suckered into the thought that it was reasonably safe to park in the lot. I met four first time riders who got burned by this, and another couple from West Covina who don't plan on coming back out because "$250 for a spoke card isn't worth it".
I screwed up, should have known better, but the number of others that got towed and later information that this lot is actually hostile to ridazz prompts this request:
If you see someone parking in the lot and unloading bikes, let them know they'll be towed. Maybe a warning/reminder when posting that meetup location, or add that to announcements at the ride. Would have saved some grief and $$.
Other than that I had a blast. My oldest kid moved up to Berkeley this morning (he was already riding the streets up there when we just talked to him), and that ride was how he wanted to spend his last night here. Now I need to work even harder to get the wife out riding.

I've had people park in that lot before. The first time I read there was an issue was the Mountaineerz ride description this month. Did anyone else know they were towing from that lot?

IN THEORY THEY CAN TOW ANY CAR,
WHY BRING THEM,
MOST OF US MAKE OUR WAY ACROSS THE FUCKIN COUNTY.
AND THAT REMARK KINDA SUCKS, WHEN SOMEBODY GETS CREATIVE AND OFFERS SPOKE CARDS.
WHICH YOU CAN GET ON EBAY FOR 8 BUCKS.

This is the first time I've heard of them towing cars from the Rite Aid lot. Last month they didn't do it. Neither did they do it the previous months.
We definitely need to warn people not to park in the lot. There is ample street parking.
A small minority of people drive to rides. Sometimes they are pressed for time or they live in West Covina and the ride is too long. Either way we should accommodate all riders.
Thanks Bellman for the heads up.

I think it's a safe bet that parking in a private lot in the city proper or it's more affluent adjacent municipalities, even a big chain like a pharmacy, and leaving the area is a move likely to get you towed. Of course the lot is 'gunning' for any cars they can legally tow, and therefore make extra cash. In the dark days when i used to drive, i remember observing those rather explicit warning signs almost everywhere i parked that was on private property...
of course they almost always made use of quotes improperly...
This lot is for "customers" only!!!

@eddie
Why bring them?
While, as you say, "MOST OF US MAKE OUR WAY ACROSS THE FUCKIN COUNTY", that still leaves some of us who don't. Some of the new riders I met had to find new reserves of energy to go the extra distance to the impound lot, would not have made their full commute from Pasadena. Hell, you didn't even make it home last night, right?
My boy is full of energy and had no other obligations on his time, so yeah, he'd ride to some rides and later load his bike in my truck when we were done. But I work full time, and spend most of my time at home taking care of my little girls, sometimes putting them to bed with just enough time to hot-tail it down just before a ride starts.
We're all different, riding to rides just doesn't work for everyone who wants to be there. You think SKD was too nice? I need to get grief for driving if that's what works for me?
Man, I thought you were all about the love.
As for the spoke card comment, at least she mentioned it as a highlight, something she did get out of the trip, right? She could have said "Going to a ride only to find out Eddie, that selfish bastard, just brought headphones for himself when he could have hauled that heavy-ass trailer and played something for everyone? That's just not worth it". THAT kinda comment would suck.

I'm not too attached to it, I miss having all my music on something while on the bus vs. my CD player or tape player, but I'm not angry or sad about losing it. It'd be cool to have it back. If I never see it again, I've come to terms with that the day I got it. Plus, it was probably all me for losing it, I don't think anyone stole it. Chepo mp3 might be on it's way.
