WE bomb hills, blow reds, and blast past all slow-ass!
WE are Air Raid Sirens!
If you hear us coming it's already too late!
This is an all LADIES fast ride. We are going to do between 20 and 30 miles a week and progressively grow in mileage.
We will start out at a solid 12 - 15mph and increase as the night goes on.
This is not a party ride, we suggest the following:
- HELMET, please wear!
- wear comfortable clothes
- clipless or cages
- NO beach cruisers
- roadbikes / fixedgear / singlespeed only
- bring water and snacks, we will stop briefly to refill
- HAVE back and front lights
- please bring extra tubes, patch kits, tire levers (alan wrench) if flat occurs we will fix together!
This ride is for us to form a pack of Women Ridazz strong enough to hold on our own, powerful enough to swarm together. We will learn the following:
- pace line
- drafting
- riding fast in groups through traffic
- going through yellow / red lights SAFELY!
- some rides will be endurance training on hills (will keep you informed)
The first SIREN ride will be 20+ miles round trip.
MEET at 8:30pm
RIDE at 9:15pm
MEET HERE: NorthEast Corner of Main Street and Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405
All ladies should just come out and DO IT. Each week we will collectively get better and better. Each Week we will learn what it is to ride with each other and build a trust.

i just wanted to note that you can do this ride. It is possible.
the idea of a pace line is to draft the person in front of you. the person in front pulls the rest of the group as fast as she can for as long as she can. this can last anywhere from 30 seconds to minutes.. when the girl in front is tired and can longer pull at her fastest, she calls it and pulls off to the left getting into the back of the pace line and the next girl pulls the line for as long and as fast as she can.
the idea is to ride together. to trust each other to be on the person's wheel in front and to know who is on the wheel in the back.
together we can pace and ride fast as one. this is the goal we will strive for.
and at the end of this route this week - we have surprises.. so please come out. each week we will grow stronger together.

According to Ovid (Metamorphoses V, 551), the Sirens were the companions of young Persephone and were given wings by Demeter[4] to search for Persephone when she was abducted. Their song is continually calling on Persephone. The term "siren song" refers to an appeal that is hard to resist but that, if heeded, will lead to a bad result. Air raid refers to an attack by aircraft against ground targets. The term is generally used for strategic bombing attacks, while airstrike is used for smaller tactical attacks.
Strafing is the practice of attacking ground targets from low-flying aircraft. The term is usually applied to attack with aircraft-mounted automatic weapons.

It's funny that you gave a definition of strafe. Now I know what it means. When I was five, I got in big trouble for confusing that word with another word I didn't know the definition of. I was singing the dukes of hazard song in the car one night.
The lyrics, at one point go:
"Strafing the girls, any way they know how."
I sang: "Raping the girls, any way they know how." and I got in some serious trouble for that one. Thing is, I didn't know the meaning of either word,
Seems to me that, 'strafing,' in the context of that song is also offensive, now that I know what it means...not as offensive as 'raping' maybe,,,,but offensive all the same.
So, now you know a little piece of my childhood.
And, I know what the word strafe means.

The Dukes of Hazard lyrics are silly, not sexist.
The line is "straightenin' the curves, flattenin' the hills, someday the mountain might get 'em but the law never will", which makes a little more sense in a show about car chases.

As for me, I usually prefer to be the Forward Air Control, calling in the strike.
That usually means "getting the fuck outta the way before I get knocked off by my own medicine!!"

i LOVE the flyer!
i'm going to do my best to attend the ride this week though i may not be able to.
however you will see me in attendance every other thursday (i've already started to request my thursdays off from work).
i'm really excited for this all female ride, especially one hosted by 2 of my favorite MR ladies.
(actually i really like all of the MR girls i've met... we are so much more badass than most of the guys....)

The nostalgic, throw-back of an "air-raid siren" brings you back to those days when everyone would hit the deck and an ME-109, or Zero would shoot the shit out of everything with a set of quad-machine guns.
But, ever since someone decided to slap fins and computer chips, along with explosives into Goddards toys, those days quickly ended.
Luckily, Phalanx .30mm's and Aegis Cruisers have been put to the task of countering that threat.

Just got home.
Tonight's ride was freakin impressive and sooo empowering.
We started with 15 girls, two dropped and we held a steady 13 until a couple miles to the finish. Technically, 8 of us completed the whole route averaging 15mph and pace-lining much of the way.
Everytime I looked down at the pedometer, we were going no less than 18mph and only did we go 14-16mph if we had to slow for someone behind.
Truly and epic ride for me. I challenged and explored my current limits. It willl be an exciting journey to push them all a bit higher.
Thanks to all the people who showed up at the finish..Soooo nice!!! :)

I guess there were a couple of different rides going on out West as I suspected.
Rode over to Hal's studio from Montebello and hung out to watch him work his wonders.
Then we sort of drove over to the rally point and discussed the finer points of the evening.
I did find it funny that as Hal and I were walking towards the rings, some drunk fellers called us "Jay and Silent Bob"!!!

from the beginning we we ran red lights when we were told we wouldn't at least for the first ride.
it was more like a cluster fuck since everyone was worried about going fast instead of actually pacelining.
if we were allowed to start off with the originally planned 12-15 for the first 5 or so miles- if we concentrated on learning eachother's riding styles, pacelining and not just taking over the whole road, i think we could have learned a lot more. i paceline all the time- that was not pacelining.
it was just really rushed and unsafe so i went home. sad to hear only half finished. i was hoping that the first ride would have at least been a little more accommodating for beginners/intermediate riders. i understand that this is meant to be a fast ride, but when i was told it would start out slower and then build up in speed and distance each week, that's what i expected. i'm totally bummed.
i'm sure you're all going to hate my review, but i was just really disappointed. have fun on your future rides. i hope no one gets hurt. and this is not a personal attack on anyone- just my own opinion/experience on the ride.

this ride was amazing. we started out at 15 and technically ended with 8 but pulled 11 thru at the end.
re: pace lining. Nicki and i had talked about this in the beginning. the idea of pace lining is so that everyone is able to ride together at a good speed and collectively push faster.
in the beginning we described what drafting was and pace lining. the first five miles were ridazz getting used to drafting and kinda falling into a pace line.
THE LAST 10 STRAIGHT MILES - ALL 11 GIRLS PACE LINED! we did two lines next to each other. when i looked back it was beautiful. we pulled right if we were getting fast and pulled off left to allow someone else to pull. we would call out if it was clear for reds and slow down collectively as a team.
THE FINAL 11 KICKED ASS. OUR PACE LINE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL I WANT PICTURES OF IT NEXT WEEK!

Let there be no mistake, these girls are FAST. Even after finishing their ride, they are still fast!
After the afterparty at the rings last night, Jakuta and I ROOTed 8 miles with no stops to culver city. We started with a few other dudes, but by about the half-way point the only one left in our little pace line was Gabi... who had suddenly acquired the ability to stay in our slipstreams at upwards of 30mph.

Wow wow wow, you guys really blew past my expectations. When I got my cyclometer back from coe coe I couldn't believe it. 29 miles at 16 mph average with a top speed of nearly 30!!! To average a speed like that means you girls were cruising a good amount of time in the 18 or 19 mph region.
Oh and the fact that you dropped people means your legit. GOOD JOB.

Ryan, Chris, and "Westside Gaby" dropped my ass when I sprinted up to catch them on their way back home.
It was like I was a cop sitting behind some bushed getting lazy(bus-stop actually), then, "vwoooooooooshhhh!!!"
Caught up to them, but I got pwned by their superior gearing.
No amount of spinning would've gotten me back to their crazy-ass, three-person paceline!!
And I was tailing them at 22mph!!!!
If a small person like Gaby could do that, then The Sirens have definitely become a force to be reckoned with, in one NIGHT!!!!
As for me, I'll stick to hauling stereos and writing checks.

i just cant believe how aweful our paceline was at the beginning, and how aesome it got as we pulled it back to santamonica on venice blvd, even through the shittiest spots of broken asphalt, we still held it together. Before this, i really had no idea what pace-lining was, and by the last stretch, i was just naturally up on nicki's wheel, without even thinking about it.
nicki, your pointing at road obstacles was absolutely lifesaving, since i am fucking blind as hell past 10 feet. everyone was calling out bumps and holes, i felt like i could trust the rider ahead of me.
and i got really sentimental when i got to pull the line for a couple minutes, just so exciting.
i cant wait to grow with you girls, we've ALREADY grown leaps and bounds in one night.
we rock. thats all there is to it.

im glad the people with the negative attitudes dropped off, or didnt show up. i love every single one of the girls who made it to james beach, debrawr, you my girl! i cant believe you were doing leg-overs in the alley after a 30 second tutorial.

i agree with the changes that happened from the beginning of the night to the end - we were a team and it felt amazing to trust each other. srsly, would ride with any of the SIRENS any time!
the most amazing feeling was not completing the route (of course, thank god we all did) but while we were riding we were conscious of each other and (dare i say it) formed bonds that none of us had before.
the feeling gives me the warm and fuzzies.
and any SIRENS that comes out and need a place to crash after - my apartment is your apartment!

ladies,
check your batteries before riding. i saw too many of you with hardly visible BACK lights. i don't want to have to worry about anyone behind me not being seen by some crazy driver speeding by.
also, i would really like to see everyone wearing helmets. if we are going to be riding that close and that kind of speed we need to be prepared. the roads in LA are shit and sometimes i can't see everything i ride over til it's too late. if someone were to go down, chances are they won't be the only ones.
let's save our heads for more important things!

this is probably the only ride i've ever known of that leaves on time.
i was SO disappointed when i got there 5 minutes too late but luckly i was able to ride with Cub Camp.
ladies, you would have been proud, about 40 miles at quite a decent pace. still got my training in!
um, and everyone needs to give me their numbers so next time i can contact someone if i am going to be a little late (though i don't plan on it, last night i was changing out my bars, etc, etc).

the route last night kick ass.. down to Manhattan Beach Pier - up Manhattan Beach BLVd. (THOSE HILS!!!!!!!!!) and through the arrivals at LAX - there was soooooooooo much traffic, so much - we sped through there like the SIRENS we are and led the police right to us - who, for a moment, stopped their car, and with smiles, stared at us - asked if we needed anything, told us to be safe and sounded their SIREN!

FF - come out anyway.. i will probably be dropped, i haven't ridden a bike in two weeks - but it will be fun, you know it. and when we finish at Bravo, you know Cub Camp will be meeting up with us and that is always a fun party time!

i feel so pathetic.
i thought i wouldnt be able to ride fast so i didn't show up. but then i decided to show my support by meeting sirens at the end but had to ride home when i was expecting to take the bus but it had stopped two hours earlier. my lungs are fucked up. if any of you see me bust out my pipe...DON'T LET ME SMOKE.

we rode by where the Dude picked up Walter right before they went to go drop the ransom money that never existed. on santa monica blvd where the del taco is.
It was funny I was watching it last week and realized where that scene was because there's only 1 del taco in this city so it had to be right there. Then we rode by it last night!!
I think the suite they used as "Sobjak (sp?) Security" in the movie is now a medical THC clinic.

Yooo.... You know, I was considering swinging by Bravo's Pizzeria around 1:15am, but I was beat, went straight home.
We went up to Silverlake, dropped through DTLA, then back west. It was a blast, we ate at two pizza joints, one in WeHo, one at Sunset and Fountain (Garage Pizza), near where the Wolfpack Hustle meets up on Mondays.

so this Thursday is a ♥ SPECIAL ♥ Thursday! we are doing Manhattan Beach Pier and back.. i have a route. when we get back we are going straight to JAMES BEACH!
then at JAMES BEACH we are going to celebrate Kathy's Birthday at midnight - (fingers crossed) Cub Camp will be meeting up with us!

Sorry I've been down for the count so long. First a busted hand/face, and then a demo reel. Freaking gainful employment calls.
Until I can rejoin night stuff, I tend to go on either a 20 or 30 mile loop during the day when I don't have work. I've gotten it good and quick, about 1.5 hrs for the short one. If any girls ever wanna come ride daytime, please drop me an e-mail. I'd love some company for those rides.
Please....don't leave me alone with the spandex warriors on San Vicente.

3 SIRENS last night. we passed by Cub Camp at Venice and Motor, they were heading north on Motor, us east on Venice - both heading to same spot: Fairfax and Pico.
mapping out the routes both groups individually took to get there from the point we passed each other:
Sirens 3+ miles
CC: 5+ miles
i'd say SIRENS are doing pretty well, seeing as how when we got there i went into the Wallgreens, bought a water, called Mihai to see where CC was, hung up, waited for him to text me E-Rock's number - called E-Rock and then drank water calmly until we saw lights coming east on Pico.
i think it might be time to ride with Cubbers!
