what's with "LOL?" This has to be the dumbest expression ever invented. am I supposed to believe that you are actually laughing at yourself out loud on the other end of the computer?
every time i see someone type LOL i imagine them sitting in a dark room laughing at a quietly glowing computer screen and laughing at their own thoughts like a moron.
what ever happened to "haha?" was it not good enough for you? did it look insincere on the forum?
and what kind of laugh is a LOL? i assume it is a boisterous belly laugh, but it could just as easily be a snicker or chuckle that is exaggerated for dramatic effect. if it is, then now you are at least being overly dramatic and at worst a liar.
PS. Eddie is excused, as I am sure he actually is laughing maniacally at his computer.
not really but this in one of many expressions that has been invented to create a shortcut for expressing intense human emotions in the limited format of a qwerty keyboard or phone pad.
Well, I for one DON'T usually laugh out loud, or make any noise, when I am amused. On the occassion(frequently here @ MR) that I do find something soo funny, there IS an audible laugh(or unsnort). So, I think LOL is actually an accurate lable.
Unsnort, is what happens as air is rapidly expelled from me as I LOL.
Eh, what's the difference? Either way, it's a (necessarily) clumsy way to try to represent laughter in written form; and either way, the person employing it is usually not literally laughing.
In Morse Code over the radio, "HI" has been used for a hundred years as a "proword" to represent laughter, allegedly because the four dits followed by two dits sound like a person laughing. This became such a popular way to denote humor that ham radio operators later carried it over into voice telephony, using it to punctuate jokes exactly the same way people today on the Internet use "LOL." Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side, HI HI! In fact, a lot of them use it that way on the Internet now. Occasionally some pedantic ham will remind his colleagues that it's pointless and that if something really is funny it shouldn't require a "HI HI," but this has had zero effect since before WWII...so good luck with that crusade against "LOL," HI HI.
That was after 14 hours of drinking Leslie. It was the 2007 SantaCon rampage. It ended at Dingo's house with a party there. Dingo and Eddie took advantage of me at the end of the night. I never felt so violated in my life! :-(
LOL I always get creepy feeling when I look for a thread and it's not there. For a split second I feel like I'm losing my mind, but there I remember where I'm at. This is MR!!!
I just hope RB is saving all those deleted threads. Would make a great auction item!
This thread was manufactured with craftsmanship that only the poodle can deliver. This one is a rare early '09 model with a fine pic of one of the members in MR, a very rarely seen ROFL COPTER, and a wonderful joke that will have you LOLing all the way home! Please don't mark this up with violent kitties Michael.
