A bike to help end world hunger?

A friend of mine is working on a prototype on this... a bicycle-threshing machine for use with a millet crop that grows in dry, arid conditions in parts of India and Africa...
Any of the engineers want to brainstorm/speculate on this? The friend is a physics major/teams up with engineers... but it is a great project to get involved with if this is up your alley.... these people are on the design end, but maybe if they get a version they like, people with spare parts and the like can help out. The bike they're using for their prototype is an old Target-bought junker bike.
Supposedly the alternative for threshing, in many of these regions, is to either beat the grain with a big stick all day or run it over with a heavy object/rented car to dislodge the grain from the stalk. The prototype can do a day's work in 20 minutes.
