Yeah, they're dumb. I doubt they fuck anyone, much less a mom.
Territorial pissing, that's all they're actually doing. That's why they call themselves DOG, dog.
When I'm pissing on the street, I usually look for tags to piss on. So at least I'm actually using piss, instead of wasting paint.
It's actually pretty funny, because these guys don't know what the fuck they're doing, and they try to use the excuse that it's Street Art. But it's not street art, it's just a tag. Any stupid little booger can write his name on the wall.
"The rides are for the joy of riding. Leave the thievery, graffiti and littering for when you aren't on a bike. This is a sanctuary from that shit. "
YES YES AND YES. Do what you must on your own time, not on rides, its probably the one and only time that i dont carry around a streak or marker of any kind.
Fuck taggers on rides. I bet we're never going to be allowed to hang out on the Best Buy roof at Pico & Sawtelle thanks to all the tagging at the last CRANK Mob.
@Kim1s, don't think it's absolutely true. Most people, especially americans, are passive aggressive whiny bitches. There are, and have been, a lot of us that have stepped up and taken the risk of a beating for calling people out on their bullshit. But, yeah, in general - people are either scared, or just don't care.
@roadblock, i'm a huge fan of streetart, and graffiti in general. I'm totally disgusted with how much bullshit SPAM in the form of billboards and advertising that fills our streets. I've also done my share of wheatpasting, banner drops and some writing. I just thinking tagging is just generally dumb. It's all relative, i guess.
Those taggers are just little dipshits. They aren't cool, they're just dumb. I equate what they're doing as shitting on your own front lawn. It makes no sense.
Trickmilla, those are the little shits that I went up to after talking to you. You were suppose to be my wingman at the coliseum. They were tagging in the parking lot, and I was talking to Patrick. I pointed out that they were tagging. I rolled up to them, thinking Patrick was next to me, ended up I was there by my lonesome. So I just said, "cool shit" and rolled away. wtf, there was like 8 of them and it was off away from everyone. Maybe one day there will be enough energy to actually wana do something about this. :-(
lol I'm sure that if you tell them they won't stop...they're probably just laugh and continue..or if not, laugh, stop and wait till you're not looking then continue writing again...
MR is still for bicycle advocacy the last time I checked. Just because a couple of "hooligans" tag, jack, or steal, doesn't mean you should bring the down the community.
Shit, I'll still go to a ride even if there are people tagging shit up. If cops come they'll look for the kids with the spray paint inside their backpacks, and dry paint on the fingers.
The simple fact that there are rides alongside the right-side panel, means bicycle advocacy. It gives people a chance to ride their bike for fun, or whatever reason they want to ride their bike. You can't take that away from them.

you mean the right lane?
do any of these rides stick the right lane anymore?
i dont think that has happened in a few years unless you come on TNS or any of the smaller valley rides.
these bigger rides take up the entire road.
it pisses the public off.
these bigger rides have assholes that tag shit up, kick cars, start fights with drivers, and litter everywhere.
it pisses the public off.
these bigger rides blow through red lights and hold up and stop traffic of upwards to 8-9 minutes.
it pisses the public off.
and i'm not taking away the right for people to ride bikes. but when all these bitches talk about how bikes should have the same vehicle rights as cars, then fucking operate like a car.
these bigger rides take up the entire road.
it pisses the public off.
(That's good!! It brings more bicycle awareness!!)

(This is not good, I agree. )

(Pedestrians get excited when they see how much freedom we have when we are riding in massive numbers. I personally think it encourages pedestrians to ride their bike more. If I had a nickel for everytime I have been asked by a ped, "Where do I go to find the rides?!?" (Or something along those lines)
....But the problem arises when people start to abuse this freedom. They use this freedom as a mode of expression that often times - this applies mostly to teens in a group - leads them to do things that are portrayed as unacceptable. )
and i'm not taking away the right for people to ride bikes. but when all these bitches talk about how bikes should have the same vehicle rights as cars, then fucking operate like a car.
remember, we're fighting to share the road, not to take over. and when we piss off the man in the huge land rover that has control over writing up regulations and the build up of a bike infrastructure, we're fucking ourselves.
- hooligans are hooligans and will always be around. i think we all just need to sack it up and talk some shit.
- we blow through red lights
yes, drunken bar goers and people leaning out of their balcony windows are fucking wayyyyyy stoked when the see us. a lot of them actually have joined us that way. shit man, i joined the MR thing a long time ago bc i was drunkenly walking back from a bar and i was like, man if i had a bike, i can go with those dudes. but we can still have people stoked and still follow traffic laws.
and yes, as these rides get bigger we abuse our freedoms. we develop a (crank) mob mentality and start to not give a fuck. and this brings me back to my original point, keep these rides small and by word of mouth. it's easier to control smaller groups.
and if we REALLY want to raise bicycle awareness,
i think multiple rides with groups of like 20 people ALL OVER the LA area is a lot better than one huge group riding a short route.
this way, people can see a group, be like, whoa, sick, then drive a for a bit, see another group, and be like what the fuck, so on and so forth.
im going to put my 2 cents here, when i started bike riding on my own i was scared shitless, and almost gave up. Then one day 2 years ago i saw a mass of bike riders going down the road and was like"holy shit, what awesomeness is this" i later found out and started doing the midnight ridazz ride. since then i have encouraged more people to bike ride, ride on the road, and come along on party rides. we blend in the background of what is going on, but i makes us feel like "yea bikes have power on the road" so in my view it is bike advocacy. So taking MR out of commission would affect those of us, that are shy yet love being part of the bike community. put i do agree that the lame ass-holes that fuck it up for others SUCK.
okay, well yeah, there's rides that occur through out the month. it's a moot point.
how is that bicycle advocacy?
how is that going make the public understand what our goals are?
we're still just pissing off the public and our community by tearing shit apart.
im sure the KKK has a website which has a panel that shows when the next clan meeting is.
does that mean just bc there are clan meetings that the public is going to be okay them lynching black people?

BINGO! You nailed it:
"how is that going make the public understand what our goals are?"
(Quoting KiMS1)
Ultimately, the problem lies in that question. You see, majority of people who attend the rides, ride for the joy of it. Who ever tells them that there is an agenda with our rides? That there is an actual goal that has been set, by a person or group of people, that we are trying to attain? Shit, I sure as hell didn't know that we were trying to let the public understand our goals! I didn't even know there were goals!
There will always be doofuses on rides, and they are most likely not active members on MR threads, so are you really concerned, or do you just want to rant on a digital thread?
You don't need to be at a bike ride to get jacked, it happens all the time, in all places.
Little rides happen all the time. Big rides don't.
Personally, I disagree with you on that. I think we need more massive bike rides to bring about more bicycle awareness. However it's these rides that tend to get out of hand, but not so much to cause a lot of problems and injuries. It's all done for the fun of it.
Hey Mike Kim, you're right that the tagging is terrible, shitty, and makes us look bad. You're stupid for posting something here, titling it "you dumb motherfuckers," and for bitching about a ride you didn't even attend. Shut the fuck up. When you're there, say something to the taggers yourself, and quit being such a goddamn bitch.
I, for one, have no problem telling anyone to not tag, steal, litter or in this case, to not be a dick. I didn't see anyone tagging, though I'm sure it did happen. Don't bitch at us because you're disappointed. It disappoints most of us too.
Go start a TNS/WNDSRS forum if you hate it here so much. No one said you had to be involved, or post here, or anything. The shit you're complaining about sucks, but the way you attempt to handle it is just as fucking stupid. Have a nice day.
I HAVE READ ALL THAT HAS BEEN SAID ON THIS FORUM AND THERE IS TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY! YOU KNOW ME KIMS1 AND YOU KNOW THAT I DO GRAFF TOO BUT THERE IS A CLASSEY WAY TO DO IT, AND THEN THE I DONT GIVE A FUCK IM GONNA DO IT ANYWAY ATTITUDE, BUT WHEN I SEE THE PICS OF THESE KIDS REMEMBER I SAID " KIDS" THEY ARE KIDS AND THEY ARE GOING TO DO STUPID THINGS! THATS NO EXCUSE THOUGH! THERE IS A TIME WHEN YOU GOT TO GROW UP! I KNOW ITS HARD KIMS1 JUST DONT LET THEM GET TO YOU! P.S. I COULD NEVER STOP PAINTING!!!
don't go on and call me out before you read the thread. it makes you look dumb.
as you can tell from the thread, im not shitting on the ride. and as far as these dumb motherfuckers, you can obviously tell that im calling these little tagger hooligans "dumb motherfuckers"
so it doesnt really if i attended this ride or not bc im not shitting on the ride. i was actually gonna come to this ride but didnt feel like puttin the effort into hauling my ass over the hill.
why do u think theres not graffiti or lame shit (other than crashes) on TNS? it's because we all put in a collective effort to keep things in check.
and like i said, we as a group of cyclists are all guilty by association bc of these idiots.
remember, this is not an attack on MR or the nerd ride, it's an attack on fools that do stupid things.
so know ur facts before you start shitting on people. its a really stupid thing to do.
i used to paint as well and im fine with legitimate graffiti but not some toy ass scribble on the ground. and ur right, these are young kids doing it. young kids that need some older folks to keep them in check. when i first started riding, i did a lot of stupid things and a lot of the older riders punked me and gave me a huge reality check. that fucking worked. that worked well. i think we all need to take responsiblity when shit kids start fucking around.
KiMs, if you really were like that when you were young then you should understand and not blatantly call them DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS, because I'm sure you wouldn't call yourself that nor would like to be offended in that matter.
There's no reason to be mad at them. They do what they do. You do what you do. I do what I do. And we have fun doing it.
..If there are people doing things on your ride that you don't like. Kick them out. Simple as that. Put the spot light on them, and have everyone watching while you humiliate them and tell them to leave your ride if they are going to continue to tag. That'll set them straight for the rest of the night.
haha, go ahead and intimidate a writer with physical violence. specially if it's toys who roll around in packs. you'll just get your ass kicked by youngsters.
just humiliate them. call them out in public and let the collective know how toy they are. believe me, this will sting more than any punch could.
^^ Werd. Just humiliate them and put them on the spot. Don't talk shit or you'll end up regretting you tried to be a hero.
Because that's what writer's call someone who is trying to stop them. Hero's. They end up getting beat, no joke. Just be nice about it, tell them to leave you're ride. Simple as that. I'm sure they'll stop for the sake of riding. And if they leave, well then, you win. It's a win-win situation.
Actually NO it wasn't it was founded on bicycle advocacy it was founded as a way to have fun. We didnt realize the bicycle advocacy part until it got so huge it became bicycle advocacy by virtue of it's size.
Yeah Mike,
I read the thread. I really could care less if you think I look dumb. Your constant negativity makes me sick. You handle things like a 15-year-old douchebag. You're smart, you have common sense, you could voice your opinion a lot more tactfully.
well one thing is for sure and that is that you attract more bees with honey than vinegar..... calling people dumb motherfuckers wont get them on your side or teach them anything... it will just make them hostile.
I spent some time on the nerds ride walking around and handing out spoke cards to a lot of the newer kids and they were very cool to meet.
I'm hoping to get the message out to all the kids that it's a burn to tag on the rides because the group becomes a big target for the cops... but the message wont get to them if it's negative and stand offish. there has to be a way to include everyone into the mix and get them to understand that tagging and stealing are a burn... but I personally dont think it will happen with a negative attitude...
graffiti just blends in with all the garbage and advertising I see every single day. I see about 1000 times more advertisements clobbering me every fucken where I go and I tell you, that nokia center is about 1 billion times more offensive to me than an empty lot with graffiti scrawled in it.... I like the way the 80 something year old freight train writer Bozo Texino put it:
"Aesthetically it might be offense and ugliness, but we must remember which side of the Berlin wall carried the graffiti. Until we become a police state, and Big Brother has us all under surveillance, there will be graffiti."
Polenta is actually a Italian mainstay
after its allowed to set up in the fridge.
it should be fried in butter served with a marinara
a slight garnish of grated cheeze.
+1 what RB said
I don't care what you do outside of the ride, just don't burn our spots and make it harder for us to have fun without the cops coming down on us.
Most of them are pretty cool if you say it to them that way as opposed to the "very angry school principal" approach which tends to make them feel insulted and rebellious.
The irony on this is that I think these are the ones me and LaHarr helped out with a flat at the end of the ride. Could you imagine that, with the good example we showed them, the bike love to all no matter who, and fixed them up they could do shit like that on our rides. f'd up.
