AGGRO MOB
Thread started by

I was going to post this in an existing thread, but I did not want it to get buried.
Hopefully crank mobbers can keep their cool this month, I'd love to see the hostility towards motorists get toned down a bit! If we can manage to keep one lane free for cars to pass I'm sure they'd appreciate it. After all, we are the ones living by the phrase "share the road" !!
If you see someone unnecessarily stopping a car for no reason, banging on a window or threatening a motorist, please try to help break it up as fast as possible. It's not always the motorist's fault!
UNLESS THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM, TRY TO KEEP THE LEFTMOST LANE FREE FOR CARS TO PASS!
AND PLEASE STOP BANGING ON CAR WINDOWS, IT'S NOT GOING TO HELP, TRUST ME.
LET'S SHARE THE ROAD & SPREAD THE LURVE

yeah, we want these people to come join us one day. they may be mad tonight, but if you say the right things, they'll feel dumb when they get home.

maybe at each start, the leaders should let everybody know. i think the information will be easier to pass along in smaller groups

For me, it's more about getting those few upset motorists out of the mob's reach quickly and easily. The last thing I'd want to see is someone get hit on purpose because a drunk a-hole wouldn't stop badgering a motorist (saw this almost happen last month)
Just urge the motorist to pass, and try to get people to clear a way for them. The longer they stick around, the more aggressive they become. The more aggressive they become, the more likely it is that someone is going to get hurt.

+1000 on this post.
Not to mention if you are going to be angry at a motorist, bottle up the rage and save it for the DipNut that does you dirty on your lone commute.
Roll up to the offender at a stoplight, waterbottle out of cage, and
"Fire in the hole!!!"

In my experience these guys that are aggressive towards motorists are almost always new riders that don't know any better when it comes to confrontations with cars.
We've got to be diligent in talking to new riders and letting them know that all we want to do is move as quickly past traffic as possible and that cars stranded in the pack should be politely escorted to the front so they can move out of our way safely and quickly.
Say everything with a smile and always de-escalate confrontations. Stay Silly.

Damn good advice stilline, thank you!
It is up to us to inform / act upon these things before AND during the ride.
An announcement at the beginning will be great, but a bunch of people casually handling these situations throughout the mass is the most effective in my opinion. No need for a specific "aggro" group to be formed or for people to be given some sort of title. Casual is the key!
The last thing I would want to see is someone trying to deal with aggressive people by being aggressive about it.
Staying silly is a spantabulous idea.

I feel when there is an aggressive driver who wants to pass.... we should just let him go. Let's just get rid of the one angry motorist and not block his way.

Yes! Yet another great way to put it! I am so glad that everyone is seeing eye to eye with me on this topic.
There are definitely situations where drivers are going to just be plain screwed for a little while (narrow one lane roads, residential areas, etc) and I feel that there is no sense in taking this idea so far that it inconveniences ridazz in these situations, but in cases where it's easy to let a car pass there is no reason to hold them back :)

Whats up with people screaming car back like they are actually being hit in the back by a car.
It scares me.
Can't you just yell "car back" without it sounding like a chainsaw massacre is happening behind you?
Maybe you should just yell "Fuzzy little kittens with milk mustaches back!" that would be nice.

I scream it like that when it's those aggro drivers who're trying to mow people down. Because "Aggro asswipe back, watch out or you're gonna fucking die" takes too long to say.

HAHAHA YES. We should all have our very own version of 'Car back!' Only rule is, it has a minimum of 6 syllables and take at least 30 seconds to say completely. I want to hear warnings of fuzzy kittens from the tall bike.

My favorite:
Turning on my NiteRider headlight while biking on a sidewalk or other non-drivable zone and screaming "car back".
Actually, people have mistakenly started screaming car back just before I pass them on the left. Sooo good!

+1 million jonnyboy, although I'm guessing a ride subtitled "GANG WARZ" may not be one destined for the peace and love vibe, especially with all the enthusiasm for tagging/stealing displayed in other threads this week.
I sure hope I'm wrong.

This has been suggested countless times before yet it is never really implemented. I think this could work with barleye since he can be kinda of aggro @ times maybe he should test this tonight on the ride with no name and see what kind of results he gets from this.....

I implemented this last month at crank mob (at least during the ride). I diffused 2 situations mid ride but I just need some help, love, and support from my fellow dudes and dudette ridazz.
The age range at RWNN is a bit older, and I could see this whole thing being less of an issue with barleye's ride (crank mob has been absolutely massive recently, too - RWNN is also easier to manage being a bit smaller in numbers). Definitely seen the most aggressive behavior towards motorists on crank mob- it's branded as a crazy ride- comes with the territory that you will have people channeling their energy towards anger and oppression! Alcohol is a crazy drug if you think about it!
It will be easy to stop and/or prevent these squabbles from getting ugly as long as we have enough people spread around that know how to wheel & deal: settling disputes between mobbers and motorists quickly and objectively,

Hahaha, I'm guilty of doing this. Usually though I'm just trying to yell loud enough so that the guy blocking the lane gets out! That or if there's a real scary car back, I'll yell ASSHOLE BACK!!!

Whatever happened to the idea of assigning sashes or vests to the the veterans?!?!?
Next time I come down, I'm going to see if I could just bring a pack of them down to be given out.
It's one of the many things I could do to make myself feel useful after my prolonged absence from this "blitz" we call the MOB.

@ EVERYONE IN THIS THREAD.
Do yourself and EVERYONE a favor:
If you're at C.R.A.N.K. MOB tonight, pleaaasse go around and talk to people spreading the advice and 'know-how" to keep this ride safe and FUN!
There's just no way we can talk to 700+ people at the same time! We don't have the utilities besides our own mouths. So spread that shiiiat!
I really like how one rider put it -
"We know FUN better than the cops. Don't invite them to the party by tagging or stealing. There's enough beer and chalk for everyone so make some new friends and keep the party rolling!
