I'm supposed to be showing a piece in a travelling art show that is due to be in portland around the beginning of June... I would love to see y'all up there for the opening!
I'm actually wanting to do a little house-hunting in that area.
When I was driving the truck, I went up there a few times after to check out some mad property along Burnside.
Nothing like meeting up at the Pile on Sunday nights, then butting heads with best of the best from atop the zoo!!!
Us old folk have already experienced the PDX-pilgrimage, now it's refreshing to see that a new flock of young-parishioners want to take on the ultimate voyage.
this is real people.
this is real people.
this is real people.

omg.
The last trip involved the bulk of bodies and bikes traveling via rental van, along with B-Rads mini-truck hauling bikes.
I got a truck-load that delivered there, and then a few others flew there.
This time around, a van arrangement would be a pretty good bet.
I mean, with all the package deals that rental companies dish out during the weekends and such.
so im going to be flying up to oregon on the 11th or something with my family for a family reunion from the 12th-14th or something. so ill meet you all up there! but ill still be helping plan all this out.
and ill need a seat to drive back with all of you.
depending on if i land an apprenticeship, i might be heading up htere around that time, but not for a week, but rather for a couple months. if thats the case, i know i can prob only fit one other, and i think Nathan C has claimed that spot.
Last I talked to Marcus, they were still working out the issue of getting someone with a Passenger endorsement on their license.
I have and maintain my Class-A with HAZMAT, Dbls/Trpls, AirBrakes, Tankers and combination.
The only problem is that I would have to take the passenger-endorsement test, along with retaking all of those tests I mentioned above.
Then there's also the issue of an actual testing site to get the behind-the-wheel done.
Suffice it to say, I would actually be in lesser of a pickle if I just stuffed y'all into the back of a 53' footer, if I was still driving anyway.
omg reading this thread makes me miss portland so much and makes me so excited to go. seriously, portland is such a great place. its where i first lived on my own, its where i ended up building bikes for my whole house and getting into bike riding. i also bought my cannondale up there. portland helped make me, i cant wait to go back.
the first bike i had when i moved to portland initially cost me 3$. it was an old shitty 10 speed. i then spent 30$ on paint, paint stripper, tubes, and lube and rode it for a good couple of months. PDX = MR paradise. its so easy to live off nothing.
If we need it, I have a car but I don't have a bike rack! If someone has a bike rack then my car can fit me and 3 others. The whole flying things sounds cheaper though.
What do you need to do to take your bike on a flight?
if its 70 for a ticket its gonna 50-80 for your bike each way. thats like 280$. gas for the trip is less than that each way. if you can have 2 or more people per car its worth it to drive.
I'm not sure what we would need to ride up there. We could camp out wherever we stop.
Break down first sight of dawn. & roll out.
As for food, and other essentials. I don't have the slightest idea.
Eh, after dealing with the 5 all the way from border-to-border on a weekly basis within the space of a year, it became a relatively, short trip.
And I was limited to 60 MPH!!!!!
What if we rent RV's? The price will be divided up by the passengers (possibly 6 people), they will replace hotels, they have kitchens so we don't have to eat out, they are a safe place for the bikes, and dont forget the F.U.N. an RV can be.
How many days do you guys think this will be, including drive time?
13 hours to Portland?? That's a hellish drive! I used to drive from South Florida to NYC a couple of times a year, about the same distance but it took me 16-20 hours. Gas was $0.95 at the Georgia border, cigarettes were $14 a carton in the Carolinas.
Maybe I'll drive if fuel prices stay low threw the summer.
yeah, slippers..come on out...but I'm going to Oregon. I had some plans in the works for a small trip out there (at the same fucking time) but I'm gonna be a follower on this one, if frozenfingerz has it going. Also, as you might have read I'm gonna be down in southern CA on the same trip. I have been working on two biggish rides...a hundred miler at night, all urban (who would have thought of that!?) and a 335ish mile, 3 day adventure extravaganza that will start in LA and will get into the Calexico area, before returning to LA. So, buy a few new pairs of slippers for the occasion, man!
I call bullshit on 13 hours. Google maps says 15 or 16 if I recall. I drove it in 12 & 1/2 hours but I had averaged 89.7 mph with 5 fuel stops. I had the cruise control set at 110. That's when I had my old bmw. When I did it my 63 rambler it took me 18 hours. It realistically a 15-17 hour drive.
Yeah, he goes with his Dad, he leaves after work here, they drive all night, work on the places Saturday and Sunday and drive back late Sunday. They don't deal with much traffic unless they're late arriving in Portland or back home, hitting morning traffic.
Two stops and they bring sack lunches. They don't fuck around. I'm always in contact with him on these trips because he's the brain behind some important stuff here at work so I know when he's in Portland and when he's on the road.
so we will be going to portland. i have lots of family up there in portland and in surrounding cities. they would not be able to put up this many ridazz though. i know nicki knows people in portland and so does larsen. I think it would be a good idea to camp somewhere though and a lot more fun.
lets pull this together. if anyone knows of events or people to stay with or WHATEVER. throw up your opinioin.
i think it would be nice to maybe slow the drive down a bit though. the road is part of the trip! hence roadtrip! we dont need to get there in 15-17 hours.
hey....wait! How are we going to do this, Frozen? Not all of us have enough money to get up there...with our bikes...We need to get up there and be together to ride, right? So, how is that going to happen? We could do a carpool thing with people who have racks. And, we could ask our friends who have trucks to carry extra bikes. Have you thought about renting a van to carry some people up there?
But, the big thing is...where is everybody gonna stay?
I mean, if everyone is paying for hotel rooms, then we will have limited contact, and big expenses. Is there any alternative to this?
we need to carpool. take as little clothing as possible which i think everyone will be in support of and divide the gas between those in each car. i need a more final list of how many people will be coming. im about to reread the thread and make a list of those who can possibly drive and how many people they can fit. i will also be looking up the mileage.
those who have driven up before please contact me. i would love suggestions on what route to take up there!
again, CAMPING. then we wouldnt need to pay for fucking hotels.
we could bring stoves.

@ Graham: YOU ARE CORRECT. I fergot about that one time some PDX fools came out bike Porn. I thought u were referring to the tournament we did in December. Phil still plays for sure.
We looked into camping in 07'. The only places in the city are for RV's and stuff. You can camp outside the city, maybe 15 miles or so from no where.
I would much rather camp on a zoobomber's floor, or under one of the many bridges.
Lots of people in Portland have extra space in back yards, basements, trampolines, exc... We just need to get on there forum and hype the trip up. Doing this will also get them excited for us to come up.
We had rides, BBQ's every day and places to sleep all lined up before we even got there.
And Ga... FF, I don't think it's a good idea to put people's names next to their handles here. I don't mind whipping it out in public, I just don't want everybody who's searching my name in Google to come across posts and pictures and twitters and whatever BS is cool today, about it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way.
OKAY. Somehow lost my last reply and it's so much better than this one.
I didn't write LAME because I cannot go.
I randomly chose the first three topics and split up the three words in my mind.
I will agree with Vladster though.
SKIP THE LIST
I like what you have so far!
You just NEV AH know what's gonna happen.
Last minute BIG Bird might show up.
I told you my last one was SOOOO much better.
I went back in time and read her last post, it totally was better.
But yeah, my point is for the ATX trip we didn't have a means of going or a place to stay until like two weeks before the thing. FF is planning two months in advance. Portland has a warm climate and is friendly to bums. Ask AT to do the math!
gabrielamadeus/WARCHILD/Cap'n¡FUN!/heyyoudouchebag from portland here!
Can't wait for y'all to show up and piss off my friends again, such good times! Bring bigger megaphones this time. And more fucking bandaids for chrissakes. Don't worry about places to crash, there will be plenty of yards to sleep in. Bring a sleeping bag, pad, and tent.
There is lots of stuff to do here. It is still sorta cold in june, but most of the snow will be melted by then. Yes there is a naked ride. Last year we had 2,700 riders! See the ever-changing (and lame-named) Pedalpalooza calendar here: http://www.shift2bikes.org/cal/viewpp2009.php
camping in back yards is a great idea, i know i can get at least one maybe two back yards. the only problem is rain but luckily most of the 60/365 days of sunshine in portland are during the summer.
yes vlad we can go skinny dipping, there is a nude beach in portland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauvie_Island
Hey ridaz! Ready to face the Meat grinder again? Lets review he last time y'all came up!
Injury List:
1. Kyber - Zombie Foot (crash immediately after picking up our bikes, resulting in a really gnarly foot. Thank god for whiskey).
2. Kel - busted knee (while wrestling with Franz)
3. Spiraldemon - too many crashes to list. That dude is cut up all over
4. Brassknuckle - Dislocated shoulder
5. onethirtynine - 10 stitches in chin and a jaw fractured in 2 places (done while riding TO ZOOBOMB.) Liquid diet for the next 6 weeks.
6. Skidmarcus - crash on zoobomb. roadrash on face. also lost control around a turn on Saturday night's rain ride and tore up his leg.
7. Goldenticket - decided to avoid zoobomb and the possibility of an injury, and managed to crash in the NE flats and ended up in the hospital getting stitches and a cat scan.
8. Samhain - hurt his shoulder riding Hell Way at Zoobomb
9. Tern - Road rash on face from crashing on Salmon during Zoobomb
eh? So remember your helmets and pads. Clothing optional. And remember, you ass will broadcast funny noises with megaphones stuffed up them, which is where the will end up.
p.s. I also still have my swarm the cascades spoke card.
I'm almost positive I can do this, I just have to figure out the bike situation....
1.Frozen Fingersss

This thread is already dead to my eyes. When you plan a trip in a thread, its better to switch up the post etiquette, less filler/jokes/dongs than other threads. (IMO)
the date depends on everyone else. like i stated above in the thread I will already be flying up to oregon with my family on the 11th or 12th for a family reunion.
smc technically ends on the 16th but most people dont have finals that day. so you guys could drive up on the 15th or something?
stay for a week and half. i would need a seat for the ride back as my family will be leaving earlier.
i was thinking the drive up you guys could haul ass kind of thing so that for the drive back we could take our time and maybe even camp out a night somewhere beautiful.
so maybe stay till the 24th and start headingback. camp that night and get back in LA on the 25th? or if thats too long post some suggestions. maybe leave on the 23rd
.
this should be a community effort. lets see what works for everyone not just me.
im 18 you guys. ive never planned a trip before. this will probably end up being less people then is on the list right now because it doesnt seem like many are willing to actually help. syoma and i were talking and we need people to be serious.
so we are planning a meeting of those who are interested in going. those who attend the meeting will make up the new list of attendees.
ill post the meeting date soon. also a good amount of people who are on the list right now are out of town.
Hey frozen Ill delete the names soon as I get to a computer....
on another note I'm heading up first week of august if anyone who can't make it in june wants to plan a second trip...
Definitely conect with Zoobomb when you are up there. They are an insanely fun group of people. Portland is soooooooooooo bike friendly and fun you guys are going to have an epic trip!!
"im 18 you guys. ive never planned a trip before." Then maybe you should step back from trying to coordinate such a big trip, its a TON of planning and work.
I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just being realistic. Oregon is very far away. Its not like Salton Sea and its not like San Diego. The time it took to put together SS was huge, think about how much more massive this will be.
jesus, give her a break. how much planning went into san diego? not too much on the LA side, it was our great pals from SD. personally i didint decide to go until friday at 11pm before the trip. austin was planned so last minute. graham, do you know what the word adventure means? Gabby, syoma and i are going to portland. there is a naked bike ride on the 13th if you can get up there early enough and there is shit going on all month for pedalpaloza. join us, plan your own trip with us, we arent your travel agents. we are going to try and get a van so when we figure that out we will let people know when it leaves and how many seats are there. if you want to fly someone say there were plane tickets 69$ each way. if you fly get a bike in PDX, i bought one for 3$, 4$ and got two for free when living there.
Borfo and Dan B (and Dak? others?) did the dirt and organized the last one.
After unplanning Austin, I discovered you dont really need to do that much. The main thing to coordinate is the place to stay and how many stank ridazz can cram in there. It looks like PDX people are already down for us.
When you pick the date, look for events that we might want to go to. Last time we caught The Fat Tire Festival, A Dropouts Ride, and then Zoobomb. Zoobomb is always awesome and happens every Sunday night. In case you haven't checked it, LOOK AT ZOOBOMB.NET...
I'm not sure if I want to go yet, so take this advice with .02 grains of salt.
go Gabbi - you rock! this trip sounds awesome.. probably won't be able to make it, don't let the negativity get you down - this thread was always about "i'm going.. i'm gonna do, who wants to go and do with me" - MAKE IT HAPPEN!
all negativity hit up the thread with that in the title.
and skiddmarcus: you are so right! list the happenings of what to do - find a place to stay and a way to get up there.
"do you know what the word adventure means? " -lasrsenf
yes it means not locking your bikes in a shady park in SD and sleeping then having SD kids come look at you and tell you "no kids... come with us... no sleeping here for you.. we will take you to our homes and have you sleep on floors there instead"
;)
which is fine if that is what you are into...
i think the old organizers of the Portland trip are going to be busy around that time and unless they were going i wouldn't ask them for help
it is still early and with a lot of combined effort this will be a cool trip
dig up the old thread to get some quotes on what they got to haul all the bikes up there and how many ppl went and all that shit
SS and other trips take way more planning that this Oregon trip will because you are not in the middle of nowhere and there are also toilets and trash receptacles around so you don't have to bring your trash back with you... all those little details make a huge ass difference
jesus christ. where were all the tweens, smartasses & clowns when we wanted to go austin ? Slow your fucking rolls, and forget about this trip for a few days you antsy !#$%.
You guys are freaking out & making it alot harder than it should be. Just because we didn't cater the whole planned trip to you IMMEDIATELY, (that said, 75% of you aren't coming and other people will still hop on, even last minute.) doesn't mean you need to SIT & criticize with !#$% dry forum humor or clusterfuck this thread with stupid shit. You're just throwing it off for us, and making the "down" ones stray away.
That said, I admit we threw the idea, too soon, but planning IS in the works and we welcome anyone to meet with us to talk about this and if possible contribute. In my eyes, the only issue right now is Transportation, several of us know of houses to crash in, and nobody will be left behind or sleep in a dumpster. I, personally do not plan on camping, I like bathrooms and i love showers and clean teeth.
Once again, the only real black hole in the conversation is TRANSPORT, and it's not difficult at all. I (syoma) and WE, need you guys to settle the fuck down and start thinking about CONTRIBUTING whatever the fuck you can, not nessecarily $$$.
I, need to know who is willing to throw in on renting a van & possibly a small trailer (see Marcus's MusicUK van) & how many people want to do this.
Expect me to keep pistol whipping this thread until we get more concrete on this. Meanwhile just STFU if you dont have anything productive and GTFO.
if theres going to be a MR ride up there can it please be the mikey walley sex change ride
any unemployed ridaz wanna... ride up to portland? i didnt come 3000 miles to sleep on b-rads roof forever. i wanna sleep on peoples roofs in portland, and inbetween.
blood in blood out
bike in bike out
crust in crust out
maybe we can set a date for a real life meeting for everybody interested in getting this thing going. With people actually speaking to each other then this may workout well.
GAV ^ we are. More to come, you need to actually talk to people to do that wich i am. I just hate fucking forums and forum rats, I beleive in telephones, facebook & hanging out at nicki's eating food and being "inspirational".
PEOPLE. HOLD YOUR BREATH. IT'S ONLY BEEN 10 MINS SINCE THE LAST "SERIOUS/INSPIRATIONAL" POST.
Yeah, I definitely recommend getting antiquated with zoobomb forum. When I went to Portland last year I had bumped into a zoombomber in L.A. before my trip and she recommended I post on the forum for a place to crash. Low and behold Justa hooked me up with a stay at her punk house and I had a sweet ass time over there during Pedalpalooza.
Zoobomb is awesomer
but Hellway is a kick in the head!!!
"it is still early and with a lot of combined effort this will be a cool trip
dig up the old thread to get some quotes on what they got to haul all the bikes up there and how many ppl went and all that shit "
Yes. Figuring out what works and what doesn't work.
Anyway, this will be great. And Delgado Blood is not new.!!.!.
Depends on when, depends on as-yet-undetermined schedule, depends on so many things, but
I'm supposed to be showing a piece in a travelling art show that is due to be in portland around the beginning of June... I would love to see y'all up there for the opening!
there will be between seven and twenty events ever day from June 11th - 27th
Fore those of you who remember BIkeSummer, its kinda like that after peculating for eight years. paybe think of it as a reduction sauce. This shit is getting thick up here!
I suggest you bring liquer which is more expensive here. Beer is often cheaper. I bet less than half of you will even go to a hospital.
btw, when is this trip? I can't read through this whole thread it's too long.
Esther is right, Portland is about the easiest city to plan a trip for. Find a way there and back and you are set. The rest will completely fall into place. The Zoobombers are some of the coolest and most hospitable people you will ever meet and I guarantee you will find a place to sleep without a problem. Last trip Warchild made the most amazing pamphlet for us with lists of events going on, a map, phone numbers of zoobombers that would give us a place to crash, and some cool sights to see. He also took a group of us on a great ride out to the Columbia River and through a nature preserve.
My favorite quote from the 2007 trip "Dan, do you think it's a problem that I bled on the ironing board while i was sleeping on it? - Skidmarcus" (who used the ironing board as his bed in the basement of the kitten shack)
yes meeting (and RISK!) sounds awesome in real life with real faces and will surely put this plan on the fast track to great and eternal fortune and success.
perhaps we could offer fine french cheese and bjs to skidmarcus to take off more work and bring the austin/SD van to dizzying new longitudes
if portland bike summer or whatever is the 11th-27th does that mean that this trip could potentially last... 2 weeks? dear god that means well need at least twice as many bandaids, bongs and beer as skullx skull now austin get down fun time.
PLEASE!!!! let me know if theres anything i can do from here, i would be more than happy to help! also i REALLY want to fly into la for a few days and then carpool it down with you guys, but if it looks like there's not going to be room lemme know and i'll just fly straight to portland. P.S. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS IDEA! im stuper excited!
I heard B v. P was epic last year, peeps were partying on Mt. Tabor till sunrise.
There will definitely be Hellway action at the ZooBomb Century. Besides it's an all day event and would be a great chance to chill with the ZooBombers.
ok if you guys come up in june there is pedalpalloza, the naked bike ride, munday funday, zoobomb and countless other rides cuz its pedal palloza... and if anyone has a tent you can probably crash in my backyard. and you can also try crashing up at washington park....you might get kicked out by park security but they might not find you. or you could do what me marcus and richie did in vegas and thats follow someone home after a bike ride. or just find a spot to sleep in the car... but im sure all the zoobombers will great you with open arms and give you a place to crash
fuzz craigslist ride share. i gave some dude a ride from portland to la free of cost. i would of felt guilty charging anyone to ride 1000 miles in my 45 year old station wagon with no seatbelts/heat/ac/or radio. like i said i didnt charge him anything but before we left he told me he had food stamp money left so we went to the grocery store. turns out he had 150$ he had to spend right then and there. sooo much good food.
