Gears are boring me to the DEATH.

So, after weeks of coming up empty handed in my pursuit for an old frame to build from the ground up, I've decided that I'll go for one of those makes off of that bikesdirect website.
It's essentially gotten to the point where I've wanted to make everyday bicycling challenging again and to feel a little better about doing so.
I intend to get started with a gear that's suitable for beginning, but won't leave me hanging in the slow-lane too much.
And of course I'll also stick with some brakes in order to ease the transition a bit.
I dunno, I feel as though I've been pushing gears for too long and now I'm starting to feel like gears are tantamount to a wheelchair, or a lazyboy for that matter.

riding fixed/ss isnt challenging in the least bit. in fact, id say its a hell of a lot easier than riding a bike with gears. less things to break, etc etc.
depending on what size you need and what color you choose will determine how fast you get your bike shipped to you.
this is assuming that youre going with the mercier kilo tt.
also, the stock wheels that come with the above bike are a little wider than normal 700cc rims, so regular brakes wont fit, so spend the extra $50 and get a brake shipped with it. when i say regular brakes wont fit, its kind of a fallacy, because they will, but you will have to have them extra loose, otherwise the shoes will just rub on the rim without even pulling on the lever.

I'll have to take that into play as well, I want to do this right the first time.

also be sure to switch out the stock lockring on the rear hub for one of higher quality. i think dura ace ones are around $10. the stock ones are shitty and i have read numerous stories about peoples hubs being ruined just days after getting it.
also, 1" threadless steertube means you can run one of these bad boys.

I'll have to seek out one of those as well, they have bad-ass written all over them.

Relax, it's not like I'm ditching gears altogether.
I'm still keeping the Hummer around for specifically hauling my system on the party rides.
The fixed-gear will basically be my "solo-project".
