I'm at a dog park every day - usually Pasadena, but often Runyon on weekends. My dogs know that park like its their backyard. Even more fun than the dog park, however, is going for a hike up Eaton Canyon or hike or mountain bike ride up Arroyo Road. Both trails have a river the dogs can play in. Mine clearly love it, even though they have to stay on leash. Any time you want to get together, I'm happy to.
Back yards are a bad idea, since most dogs are pretty territorial about their own space. My dogs are great at the dog park, but will only share our yard with little dogs. I do have a nice, big off-leash park just 2 blocks from my house, though.
