I'm planning on following the marathon on Monday May 25.
My lady is running and I plan to plant myself to cheer from a few different locations.
I have 3 different people I want to cheer and I am sure that others will too so this is'nt really going to be the type of ride where everybody will want to necessarily be in the same place at the same time.
However, perhaps there will be various opportunities to meet up based on a loose time frame.
In addition to the joys of cheering for friends and strangers they are expecting 1,000,000 people to come out.
You know what that means: fucked up traffic! The wonderful kind of fucked up traffic that bicycles can glide through joyfully.
I'll be working on a route and schedule and ride listing soon!
hey I had fun following this last year... I actually had the opportunity to help out one of the wheelchair guys (I think he was from guatemala)!
we were cheering people on when the wheelchair bound marathoner was passing and I notice he had a flat! he was struggling and I waved him over, pulled his wheel off and fixed the flat! it was a 700 rim and I had an extra tube or a flat kit I cant remember I just remember feeling really good about myself for helping and we saw him on the final stretch by the finish line going for it!

I hate running. I ran for the bus last week and it sucked.
But I love watching the marathon.
How often do you see random Angelinos cheering and encouraging complete strangers?
The marathon definitely brings out the best in LA.
I'm gonna scope out the route this week and figure out a starting point and some meet up points.
If people have suggestions I am open to hear them.

My wife and I are running. Its my first marathon (her 5th) any extra cheering will make a huge difference! Love to see you there!

RB (or anybody else) have any suggestions for route planning?
Is it necessary to stay inside or outside the circle or do you think its feasible to cut across the race line when necessary?

So I have been kind of lagging on this but basically this is how i think it is going down.
I'm going to establish 4 or 5 meet up points where people can meet up and cheer.
Its just an opportunity meet up with some people and maybe ride to the next stop together.
Its gonna be mad hectic with all the people so something more formal isn't really realistic.
It gonna be mission enough for us to find the specific people we want to cheer for, and everybody runs at a different pace.
The upside is that I am expecting traffic to be so utterly fucked that on bikes we will be just owning the road.
The Marathon always goes by my place. And I have to say it has really grown on me over the years as one of the very best things in L.A. I can't wait to see it by bike!

Here are proposed locations for cheering at the Marathon. No sure what routes I will be taking in between. I'm going to be pretty much staying inside the loop of the course. Some stops will have a little extra time in between for rest and refreshments.
But feel free to look for me at any of the locations listed at the approximate times. Not everybody will be able to stay together but if you want to meet up here is when and where you can find me.
This map is loosely based on Christene's expected run time of 12 minutes per mile.
If you would like to be in touch with me on Race day you can call or text my phone.
8am - Rodeo & Arlington (5.5 miles)
9:30 am Venice & San Vicente (12 miles)
11:00 am 6th & Dunsmuir
12:00 noon Olympic & Vermont (24 miles)
We will then go to a beer garden at the Bonaventure Hotel (Bonaventure Brewing Company Patio) to celebrate all of our hard work.
