Actually, he was hit by a "transport" shuttle bus, which is more like a large van than a bus.

I am very familiar with the spot where this happened last night. It is a popular mt. bike trail which is called "Fullerton Loop".
At this point, the trail descends a steep hill, which opens onto very busy Euclid right at the bottom.
Once you have slowed down at the bottom, you must cross Euclid to continue on the trail. At rush hour, I always ride up the sidewalk to a light and cross on the green. Many riders will check for clearance and "Jaywalk" across. It can be dicey with heavy traffic. Cars are going 50 plus there.

Based on the scant details, it is possible this was the rider's fault.
In any regard, I hope he survives and will be able to ride another day.
