the only reason cops break up huge bike rides is because huge bike rides interfere with commerce.
why does critical mass typically start on friday at rush hour?
to disrupt capitalism. i thought that was the original goal of this shit.
i think that because no one really cares about the whole political thing behind CM that LA should just stop having one.

Thats silly and cynical.
I don't know if you have been paying attention, but but a lot of people care about CM in LA (as seen in the many rides that popped up to replace what used to be LACM).
You should watch the documentary in the "what is a critical mass" thread.
A protest of sorts was a part of an original idea ... but much more so, for many of the founders of CM it had to do with reclaiming public space and just hanging out and meeting people
You are right to think that a police parade is not a Critical Mass.
But we are fortunate that with the ending of 1 Critical Mass, several will be popping up in its place.
Critcial Masses don't die
They multiply

I remember how I used to go to CM back in the day. It was only fifteen people at the time. We'd ride corner to corner, passing out Maoist Notes to the Proletariat at the bus stops. We'd also do circle of deaths, passing out Marx pamphlets to the drivers we were blocking.
What happened to those days? The Revolution died, man!

Like Watchtower magazines, I usually keep those and use them as kindling.
