Thanks! My buddy who wants to start commuting was telling me about his childhood riding all over the island of Jamaica on fixies back in the 70's and how he knows how addictive cycling can be.
He also said that when he first came to the US, he was shocked how small joints are here.

depending on where in leimert your friend lives it may be better to take king or rodeo/exposition.... and probably cutting up main is better than fig if you're going to city hall

his best bet is probably finding his way to crenshaw and hitting leimert blvd to king blvd East. thats if he's coming from south of vernon. then from king turn left onto Broadway pl. (which becomes main in 3 blocks)

have you actually ridden that route during commuting hours, or are you just looking at gmaps and making stuff up? jefferson is narrow but quiet even during traffic hour and while fig is busy you have a lot of shoulder space from USC to DTLA. i can't say the same about King and Main.

yeah, I have, king has bike lanes in a couple of sections, and it's the shortest distance for him to travel as well. king is no more busy than any of the east-west thoroughfares in that area in my experience. usually slauson is the worst. he can take any way he wishes, this is just the shortest.

my bad, the bike lanes are east of broadway. regardless it doesn't really make a difference -__-

agreed that slauson is rough, though vernon is not far behind. i used to take expo/rodeo occasionally but the streets weren't great due to the metro expansion, but construction seems to be done now and i haven't been in that area recently.
