Thread Box:
Imperial Century
Thread started by GarySe7en at 03.7.08 - 12:25 pm

The AIDS LifeCycle Team Midnight Ridazz will be riding an Imperial Century April 5th as we prepare our selves for 545 miles in a week this June (two days of which will be full centuries). All are welcome to join us, but do be prepared for the rigors of riding 100 miles. Pace will be moderate, not a cruise, but not a hustle either.

Road bikes suggested. Spare tubes, patch kits, plenty of snacks and water recommended. This is not a supported ride, but break times will be built into the route, as well as at least one bail point with connection to the Metro system.

Like the metric century ride in December, this ride will feature standard spoke cards, and super make you feel special edition spoke cards for a minimum donation to the team of $5 for our fund raising efforts.

Ride is Saturday April 5th. Start time, location, route, and additional details to be announced. This will be a day time ride.

I am also designing a Metric century (100km, 62.5 miles) the weekend before this in order to train for the full century. My ride will be a bit later in the morning to accomodate ridazz who don't like to wake up early!

Sorry I'll miss this century. I'll be in San Fran, and so far I've found no rides up there that weekend. I'm doing the Mega Bus thing, so I can't bring my bike anyway. I'll have to rent if I want to ride.
Mark, I will be here for your metric. See you then if not sooner.

This is a day time ride, and since we are going quite a distance, it will be in the AM. I don't want it to be typical day time cyclist crazy early, you know those people who ride out at 7AM, but do want us to get finished at a decent hour. Haven't decided for sure, but thinking meet at 9:00 am, roll out @ 9:30. Bike kitchen is the starting point.

I'm printing the special edition spoke cards as I speak. They are fancy. Asking for $5 minimum donation to support the AIDS LifeCycle team for riders who want one. Team members who attend automatically get a special edition card. A simple complimentary spoke card will also be available, but all the cool kids will be sporting the fancy ones.

thanks gary for the route, awesome spokecard (that even my wife loved... "so where's mine"), and making this thing happen. To rich for taking over command when we lost our noble leader, to Danny for the shag carpeted rest stop and peanut butter and banana sandwiches, to Meg for the potato salad, etc, to the bus driver for not totaling crushing tern (only a little crushing him), for the hit and run driver for not getting too pissed off that there was a bicycle in the road, and again for tern for showing that bicyclists hit back. And for a group ride that stayed a group throughout (almost).

I hope Tern is ok, what happened?

it was my pleasure, I ate most of the sandwiches before you got there :P, I figured since I wasn't going to ride, I may as well help out,

I'm really okay...the bus driver veered to the curb while I was in between. I got bumped over the curb and onto the sidewalk.

Otherwise, it was a great route. I got my ass handed to me on the last set of hills in Whittier, and I got dropped for a while. It is fully evident that the ALC team has been serious about their training. Some of the people who were struggling on the first ALC metric century (metrixx) were passing me on every hill. I feel pretty confident that you guys will be fine when the ride comes up in June.

I was one of the last riders to finish, and it gives me some perspective...to keep up the hills, speed and long rides. I came into the ride thinking that I would have no problems at all, but damn, I had to struggle a bit. Thanks to the ALC team for taking me on an epic ride. All of you guys stuck together and made it happen!

Congrats everyone on finishing that route. That was a pretty brutal combination of distance and hills (I realized after why it went a little over a hundred, I added the stop to Danny's work without cutting out miles from elsewhere). Sorry I couldn't finish it with you all, stupid fever and stomach pain.

It's really awesome to see such improvement in everyones abilities, we keep this up and we will be rocking AIDS LifeCycle. Hope you all are feeling high off epic accomplishment.
