Anybody looking for a little bit of work two days a week riding a cargo bike in DTLA dropping off stacks of newspapers?
Wednesday and Tuesday, every week. About $160 cash for two day's work.
Hit me up at ubrayj02@yahoo.com
Here is a picture of the job:

Yes, it is shit pay.
It is also a fun job.
We're trying to make this idea work, and are doing it by the seat of our pants. You'll be outdoors, riding, having fun and meeting people.
If you are really flakey, just like bikes but don't like to work too hard, and think you want to do it but aren't sure because you've got this other project you're working on that is super hip etc., don't bother.
If you can actually sacrifice your time and effort to this, help deliver 15,000+ newspapers in two days, hustle, connect with people, and ride safely, then shoot me an email at ubrayj02@yahoo.com
Your sacrifice will not be in vain.

How flexible are the hours?
Does the rider need their own bike?

This is a really cool idea and perhaps you could hire kids to do it being that the adults stole the newsboy delivery job by the early 90's.
Do you have plans to expand the route if it gets off the ground?
I hope this works, beacuse it's awesome!

We supply the giant cargo bikes. You supply the manpower, cunning, human intelligence, tact, grit, and personality.
Drinking and smoking weed while you're being paid to deliver papers is definitely a no-no. What you do with yourself when you're not on our bikes is your own business.

I sent you a message via email but I haven't heard back. If by "cash" you mean under the table--I'm definitely interested.

It would make a great part-time gig for those of us with "compacted" employment.
So, are these newspapers for a big-time outlet? Or a small-time, community oriented piece?

Just sent out a follow up email w. more details and a few questions I'll need an answer to.
The paper is the blogdowntown Weekly (print version of the blogdowntown). So, it's a small, weekly, paper with a distribution around 15,000 to 20,000 in the DTLA area and slightly beyond that.
Many thanks to those that wrote in!

Looking at the pictures on flickr, I have to say that these are some of the coolest looking cargo bikes I've seen. For some reason, they remind me of Amish buggies.

So far, it has been a struggle to make this work. A lot of that has to do with establishing a route to deliver papers, and to handle bicycle-based logistics.
A great example is Bunker Hill delivery with a cargo bike holding 200 lbs+ of newspapers. You only really want to do that trip once, or as few times as possible. We've been working out the kinks.
If this does pan out, then there is potentially a wide open market for bike-based deliveries in similarly compact zones of the city. We'd be the only game in town with the know-how, the bikes, and the workforce to do it right. But it might not pan out. It all feels like one big experiment. That costs money.
That last part is killing me right now, but them's the breaks.
