Of course!
As long as you're strong enough to keep up on it, which shouldn't even be a problem on most rides.

MOUNTAIN BIKES ARE NOT ACCEPTED ON RIDES, LET A HIPSTER SEE YOU ON ONE, AND YOU'LL BE SHUNNED.
EVEN IF YOU LATER ON GET A FIXIE, YOU STILL NOT BE ABLE TO PULL OFF A GOOD RENDITION OF A HIPSTER.

Oh, he meant the big second Friday rides?
Yeah. Bring whatever bike you want. Nobody cares. Or, to be more accurate: fuck anybody who cares. Your knobby tires will be fine. These rides are not fast.

considering the pavement, there have been a lot of rides where I wished I had my mountain bike instead.

go for it!
make sure you have enough water and food and whatever you need to get back to where you need to in case you can't keep up!
i went on a "bored on saturday" ride, majority had bikes with high pressure skinny tires, my low pressure knobbies and i managed to keep up till the very last stretch, it was a lot of fun! and man was it a work out for my big 'ol bellied self haha =)

I use my Mt Bike. I ride with a camera mostly. Many, many, so many it's countless, times I've been glancing 'round shooting while riding, and hit large potholes. I feel i would have gone down hard, but I've been saved by my suspension!

Too bad, you will.
Envision an army of tired, grumpy, old farts consuming all life as we know it by going on and on about mindless drivel that was already laid out days before.
Or, in short terms, slow-death.
