tern, PC... River Trail questions

OK, I know this info has been covered somehwhere but I can't seem to dig it up. I've done these parts before but I've never led. 3 questions for you knowledgeable gentlemen:
I wish to cycle from LA to LB (and on to San Diego).
1. Where can I pick up the river trail in Vernon? From Dark Century I recall something about Leonis and District streets... is this correct?
2. Where do I have to switch sides on the river trail?
3. Once I get to LB, what is the best way to continue on south?
Tern, the map you posted me was helpful, but I'd rather pick up the river trail in Vernon, not down in Watts or wherever that is.

Adds more miles but this is what I did.
From Down Town LA, take Main Street East. Becomes Valley blvd. Continue East many miles until You pass El Monte and the 605 and ride the River path along the San Gabriel River all the way to seal beach. And the coastal route all the way to SD.
But i also pooped out by the time I got to Oceanside, so you may want to rely on Tern more than me.

left on vernon
vernon turns into pacific and curves south
at this point turn left on leonis
leonis turns into district
pass atlantic
the bike path starts just after the railroad tracks on the left
on the path
just after you pass under the 710 (the first freeway you go under on the bike path) you will come to imperial hwy underpass.....go under then get onto Imperial hwy and cross the river.
((there is the outside chance that you will have to hop the gate here))
continue south on the river path on the east side of the river
go all the way until the bike path ends
curve around behind the rv park at the end of the path and make a left on golden shore.
make a right on ocean blvd.
there you go.

The stop before Imperial (atleast major) is Firestone. Once you see that, pay attention. The 710 freeway is next, then Imperial.

tern, I don't know why this didn't occur to me until now, but if you care to ride with us consider yourself invited. One other guy from LAfixed sounds interested, so at this point we're 4.
We're going to be on fixed gears, so the pace should be comfortable for you.
We are planning on rolling out at ~7am from k-town, heading to Vernon per your instructions, and you know the rest.

Ok, well keep us in mind as plan B. Like if you and borfo get wasted tonight and borfo falls down and you jump on top of him and give him a roman helmet and studiodrome snaps a photo and says "i'm posting this shit!" and borfo says "screw you tern, that was over the line, find your own ride to San Diego" you can come ride with us.
In other words, see you at 7am in Koreatown.

I had fun revisiting this thread. Above is a pretty good description of the best way to get down there...but then we have the smart phone. I could tell some stories about this meetup in SD. wow....the past!
