Primitive Survival Skills Class @ REI

Not sure if this is going to be an actual quick to survival class, and learning some of the basics, or a sale pitch. Any ways I've been to a few of this classes at REI and some are pretty freaking good. One of the most memorial was
A Walk Through the Valley Death. But I digress. Here's the info on tomorrows event...................

Great post...
I just camped for week on Santa Cruz Island... semi-primitive for a camp-ground (they have water and fancy toilet pits)... but camping is fucking great, period (if you do it right)
I might check this out... maybe Ill introduce myself... i doubt it though...
Fuck it if its a sales pitch or not... theres nothing wrong with having a shit load of questions ready, and exploiting their sales pitch. Just buy an inner tube on your way out... or some cool ass rock climbing shoes.

You're not pressured to buy anything from REI. It just looks like this guy does these back country classes that are in the hundreds of dollars. I've never felt pressured to buy something from REI at these things.

This ended up being a pretty cool lecture. The guy wasn't really pushing his classes like a sales pitch. It was really more a lecture on the fundamentals and the very basic steps on surviving in the wilderness. The guy ended up talking for two hours!

Kind of sad that only 50-60 years ago, all kids and almost every adult knew this kind of thing due to either being in the scouts or the military at some point in their life.
Now thanks to varying degrees of rejection from both outlets(parents too cheap to pay scout dues, can't get into service because of some MD said you couldn't), most of us have to seek it out during spare time.
Anywho, not trying to bitch or anything, but it seems that most of us have really lost touched with real reality due to modern development and the push for a better(?) life.
If anything, I'm going to pick me up another copy of one of these
things.

With an endless supply of dumpsters in a big city, survival skills are so-so.
