It was slow because there was a lot of traffic and I wanted to keep everyone together, and yeah I totally dropped the ball on the time and place. whoops

Either way I think everyone except you would agree that was a pretty fun ride. We had about 50 people or so which is good considering the ride died off about a year ago and it's been pretty much impossible to get more than 10 people to come out since may.

Anyways sorry to disappoint you with the slowness, but this is critical mass, go do wolfpack if you want to go fast, we don't need your negative vibes around here.

Definitely tried that and the "leader" kept the pace down. I'm down for a slow pace, but not so slow that it's difficult to stay up on 2 wheels. We broke off and rode to Westwood, back to santa Monica and to first Friday at abbot Kinney and beat the mass by easily 15 minutes. If the ride was not a fake critical mass, the ride might actually work. Don't call your ride "critical mass" when you have no idea what critical mass is.

First of all if you had a suggestion on how to make the ride better why didn't you come up and let the "leader" know, instead of passive aggressively coming onto the forums and talking shit. Your not going to get any change by whining a bunch.

If you have balancing issues that's your deal, people seemed just fine. I know that we were going really slow through the downtown area with the traffic I just didn't want anyone left behind. I feel that the majority of people seemed to enjoy the ride.

Like I said before if you want to go fast go to wolfpack hustle, other wise shut up unless you have something constructive to say.

When did midnightridazz become midnightwhinazz?

no such thing as a "leader" in a critical mass, bro. that's why it's in " "

if you were the one in front keeping it slow. way to keep it lame bro. it has nothing to do with wanting a wolf pack. did you not notice all of the cars behind us laying down their horns and then speeding up and passing the group both dangerously close and fast and then veering into the group or were you too busy in the front in your tiedye shirt looking cool on your bike to notice that?

riding that slow is dangerous and outright stupid. riding in a CM is not about riding around a 6 block radius looking cool on your bike, you can go pose somewhere else.

First of all I'm not your bro. Also I believe only one car did that while we were going north on 4th street no need to exaggerate. I'm not sure if you noticed, but my head was turned backwards most of the time making sure we had everyone. I am vaguely aware of the point of Critical Mass "the purpose of Critical Mass is not formalized beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and traveling as a group through city or town streets on bikes." Obviously the ride needs a little leadership, maybe not. Maybe next time I will do my best to let everyone know about the ride and then just let what ever happens happen. Right? Will the ride even start?

Also I'm not sure what you mean by posing, if you want to talk shit about riding bikes please come out to a race sometime. I plan on rolling out to Lord of Griffith I'll see you there, but probably not. right?

"Hey I think we need to go faster because I feel that it is dangerous for us to be going this slow because it is upsetting traffic behind us." -not that hard

Anyways thanks for the constructive criticism "go moar faster" got it.

And yes you are correct that I have been leading Critical Mass wrong according to the standard, when I rode on SMCM rides in the past lead by others there always seemed to be a route and I suppose in a way I was raised wrong. I found the wikipedia page for Critical Mass and educating myself on how to run this shit, actually more like not run it.

Thank you your constant whining has been heard.

I've never been to SMCM just because of the many opinions of it. It's their thing, let them have slow ride. If you're not happy with the pace look for something more your pace. I do my research before doing anything.

Why I never gone to SMCM as of yet. LOL

Complaining just isn't going to help learning to be more constructive with time and effort is time well spent.

It's not whining. I asked a few people on the ride if they wanted to speed up and they said, the leader wants to keep it this pace, go to a Wolfpack Hustle. I wasn't offended, but more shocked that it was a bunch of sheep riding slowly through the city, following a single rider. Why call it critical mass? Why not call it Santa Monica Mosey or something. Critical Mass is the last Friday of the month, end of story.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=189314458200750949# educate yourself.

I don't want you to think I'm bitching, I'm definitely not. It's a constructive criticism. If YOU take offense that some "2010's" talk shit about YOUR ride, then you've missed the point completely.

Critical Mass is usually the last friday of every month correct, but SMCM is the first friday so it doesn't conflict with LACM, I didn't decide when it was it's been like that so we keep it like that.

Thank you for your criticism the ride will be a lot different next month, I hope you will come out.

I'd also like to apologize for getting upset, I just don't want this ride to get bashed into oblivion, this city a long with every other city needs Critical Mass.

That was a great ride. I found the pace to be perfect for a critical mass. This is not a fast ride, this is not a medium ride, this is a slow ride and it shoud be kept that way. There are plenty of rides that go faster, please take your misguided aggression to one of those rides.

secretragingcow

that's dangerous.
that's why motorists don't want us on the streets with them.
there's no misguided aggression either, take your wimpy attitude elsewhere. i'm thinking of the safety of both myself and the group at large. the way to encourage people in vehicles to share the road with us is NOT to piss them off. we need to show them respect just as we expect them to show us respect. respect is not crawling down major streets with heavy traffic and holding up said traffic while you think you look cool riding your bike in the road. giving respect gets respect & it's as simple as that.

your head shouldnt be turned backwards most of the time & thats probably why you were riding so slow.

the cm rides and then holds up at a stoplight for the stragglers and a regroup and then proceeds as normal. it is not your responsibility or anybodies to slow a ride down for a few who can not maintain. if you cant handle a normal paced ride, kick it in the back or work on your body so you can keep up. its not that difficult.

we mentioned several times to riders around us that we need to pick up the pace to stop us from upsetting traffic behind us and we simply got shrugs and answers of "go do a wolf pack"

its great that no one else seems to have personal responsibility or care about how their actions affect others but im not interested in being part of that mentality. the group mentality has to wise up to their surroundings and not be oblivious.

if you want to see a real CM, check out lacm and see what its all about. this has the potential to be great but it was a poor delivery. most of these people wouldnt last more than 3 miles at lacm & thats the truth.

& the people who can not ride fast should not determine the ride speed for everyone. theres a reason the CMs spread out long and thin instead of a giant cluster. the people who cant keep up end up in the back.

"most of these people wouldnt last more than 3 miles at lacm & thats the truth."

Douchetastic.

You do realize that a large part of the reason for Critical Mass is to get new people out on bikes, right? You know: all those slow, inexperienced riders who wouldn't come out otherwise?

And you want to alienate those people. Wonderful.

Every month, for as long as I can remember, there have been people complaining that LACM is too fast and that this is the reason that it sucks. To be fair, there are lots of reasons that LACM has sucked for the past couple years, but going too fast and getting spread out is definitely a contributing factor.

Why on earth would you want SMCM to be like LACM, anyway?

douchetastic? possibly.
if you ride less than 2 miles and then stop in a park to take a break, there is a fundamental problem with the ride.

If all this posturing you're doing is just because you're disappointed at the lack of medium-paced rides in your neighborhood, maybe you should look around and see if anybody's putting one on rather than complaining that a slow ride should pick up the pace.

And if nobody is putting on a medium-paced ride, well it sounds like that's a niche waiting to be filled, doesn't it? So perhaps you should start one.
