MR August Route Suggestions
Thread started by trickmilla at 07.11.10 - 6:26 pm

The Worlds Biggest Bike Song is coming up. And I could really use routing help and suggestions.

We are expecting a magical night in LA and would love to tap the amazing minds of the Midnight Ridazz brain trust.

The World's Biggest Bike Song will be a rolling jam session bike parade where everybody is invited to play.

Hopefully we can have some nice stops long enough for performances at the stops.

It would be great to hit some high volume locations like hollywood and staples center where there tend to be lots of pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Clean roads are nicer for bike sound systems.

Thanks in advance,
:) trickmillz

pershing square or in front of the big building a few blocks up with the huse grass front - I think it might be city hall???

Acustics could be nice at China town metro station.

Chinatown platform would be great for a regroup/ performance.
Especially since we will be hitting DTLA.

James M Wood ave is recently paved from K town just just before the 110, as a potential route to/from DTLA

Maybe Pan Pacific is a bit played out these days, but I'm really liking the idea of a performance on that weird storm drain overflow structure they've got there. You know: this thing, next to the amphitheater.

So far as route goes, my only suggestion is to stay away from quiet residential streets. I mean, I know LAPD totally loves us now and gets weak in the knees every time we say hello, but a rolling wave of noise complaints might put a damper on that crush, 'sall I'm saying.

Yeah I agree about the residential streets thing.

How about the tagger's den? Too ghetto?

Feel free to add locations or comments to this map:
http://tinyurl.com/MR-WBBS-collaborative-map

when we have a bunch of stops and ride by locations set we can start to edit and craft the route. :)

We are looking for clean roads, flat terrain, good visibility, and good acoustics, but, Nothing is off the table at this point.

Thanks for the input everyone!!!!
Keep it comin'

The noise issue for me is more of respect than fear of punitive action.

Most people will not call in about a noise that happens briefly and moves on.
However as the gets later, we should be more conscientious of the neighborhoods we roll through & not to be too big of annoyance to too many of our neighbors.

But this is the city, with ghetto birds, ambulances, Harleys, and lots of other ambient noise. Most people deal with it. If its a magical bike parade most wont mind. But lets do our best to be ambassadors of good will to the communities we ride through.

ride on.

So this is what I am leaning toward.
Starting in Echo Park/ Silverlake or Bike District
Riding DTLA including staples center with a performance stop at Chinatown Station

Riding to hollywood with a final performance stop in Pan Pacific Park.

After PPP performances people will have an opportunity to break off in groups and ride home or back to the start.

I dont know, but if were performing publicly wouldnt it be better to do it in a place with as many people as possible? Chinnatown station and pan pacific are dead at night. What about doing a performance at union station? Or just do one in front of staples if were going there anyway?

Or maybe as someone said under grand street? The holes coming out to the top of grand where Moca is might work as a giant acoustic guitar hole and amplify the performance.

The whole ride will be a performance and sure to hit some high ped volume areas.

But for planned performance stops the main concerns will be layout, acoustics, and the needs of the performers.

Acoustics are going to be crucial as many of the performances will be acoustic or low power.

---------------

Under Grand is a great idea!
Also doing a quick loop through union station entrance/ exit would be sweet to.
Security is uptight there, but if we stun them and then leave, they wont even have time to react.

Also olvera st. plaza. could be a great spot for a quick regroup/ mini performance.

I also think its important to have some locations where some bands or performers could do something more elaborate without having to worry about getting kicked out or hassled.

Its OK if those locations don't have an outside audience since we will be hundreds strong. we are the band, the venue & the audience :)

Hollywood is a must!
But stopping at H&H would just be a nuisance.
I think we'd get more audience and more love by rolling hollywood & stopping at all the lights to maximize our audience time, rather than waiting around at one light plugging up the streets.

good point! if i'm in a car on a friday or sat night trying to go through h&h, it's pretty frustrating, if we cause a major backup it's not very nice, but yea, u know this already! hehe

Can anybody recommend a place that would be big enough for a MR sized mass to ride in a loop?

Could be around a block, or in a park. or?

Somewhere with minimal traffic impact. Quiet streets or open spaces.
Good acoustics, clean streets, and lighting are all pluses.

The loop serves 2 purposes,
- we can regroup with out stopping, we play in an area with minimal traffic.
- people who want to record can post up and know they wont get dropped.

I want to make the ride a series of "events" and convergence points. Rather than a set route.

that way people are more free to travel at their own pace and group up in bigger groups.

the route can be indirect so that if people are behind they can hit the next convergence point.

Some convergence points will be like points of interest to ride past, other will be places to do a rolling re-group (ie riding around a lake or a block).

I'm trying to think of a way where riders can be encouraged to ride in small groups (like a hide and seek ride) but travel in a general direction, hitting various locations. And crossing paths with other groups of Ridazz. In the end we can converge for the big performance rest stop.

Thoughts?

hmmm.. I have no idea how cause people follow each other like sheep..

but you know, it's cause nobody wants to risk losing the main ride.. which we've all done and it sucks not to know where you are going anymore

also it's not that easy (unless you are a local) to maintain a strong sense of direction when riding in a group, you kind of just want to get lost and be carefree with the group.. at least i do..

anyway, sorry i can't help but at least this bumps the thread for someone who might have nifty ideas!! :D
