MANDEVILLE VERDICT IS A CRIME

Thread started by

Perhaps the whole incident was based on machismo - 50/50%... Perhaps RON PETERSON did everything in HIS power out of pure vindictive assault on the doctor because of other driver incidents HE HAS HAD. PERHAPS Peterson is a "hot head" too; assuming the doctor is... Peterson admitted on the stand that when the doctor first yelled out the window - "Single file", because Mandeville is a narrow canyon road; he (Peterson) responded F--k you!!! Is that the proper response of a purportedly respected coach, who should be aware of the dangers of bikes and cars sharing the road...??? PERHAPS the doctor was weary after a night shift in the ER... PERHAPS, rather than the charge of MAYHEM, he abruptly stopped to voice his disdain back at Peterson; NOT TO INTENTIONALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PERHAPS the bikers should have backed off when they felt that a "situation" might be forthcoming, instead of following on the heels of the vehicle - Testosterone flowing...
PERHAPS Ron Peterson is looking for a large cash payout as well... - since he has refused to settle, as the other biker did....
PERHAPS Ron Peterson and the young jury really didn't rule with BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT in mind.... Perhaps they didn't examine the consequences of their unfair action. YES, IT WAS AN UNFORTUNATE ACCICENT... But, did it deserve a life sentence to prove a point for the biking community??? The doctor, a 30 year ER veteran, will never be able to practice medicine again... The loss of their home to foreclosure, and the financial inability to remain in California has also seriously damaged his INNOCENT, SWEET WIFE and damaged her career in California - SHE, TOO, WILL BEAR THE BURDEN OF THE JURY'S DECISION FOR LIFE...
PERHAPS Ron Peterson should examine his rage!!! PERHAPS the Prosecutor, should feel a little guilty for her interpretation of the incident and her theatrics to demonstrate it to the jury - yes, she was replete with props, including doctor's coat and baseball bats... PERHAPS the jury shouldn't have been so biased to what they perceived to be fact, and should have spent more than a few hours deliberating so they could make it home in time for dinner and not inconvenience their day...
PERHAPS PEOPLE'S LIVES SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED FOR THE "CRIME" OF AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT. WAS THIS REALLY A FELONY - OR A MISDEAMENOR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED AS RECKLESS DRIVING AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN TARGETED MONETARILY???

Well like Lebowski said..."thats like your opinion man"
Which means nothing......The guy was found guilty by his peers.
He did something wrong and must pay for his crime.
Accident it was not. If you want to teach cyclist a lesson with your car you are using it as a weapon.

perhaps you should have gone to the trial to hear testimony, the 911 calls, the incriminating statements by Dr. Chistopher Thompson, the witness testimony from previous road rage incidents perpetrated by Dr. Thompson before you babble about this case. There were several people in this community who followed this case day by day including journalists and at least one Lawyer from this community.... I personally was there for final arguments, heard the tapes and feel that is this doctor doesnt get 5 years minimum then our justice system has failed.
BUT
after all this...... lets just say hypothetically that the victims stopped in the middle of the road, pulled their pants down and took a steaming shit and placed it on Dr. Thompson's curb in front of his mansion and swore up and down that his wife is a whore all the while completely blocking the roadway..... it still would not justify what Dr. Christopher Thompson did to the victims. In fact it does not come close to being legal in the eyes of the law.
so... your argument is fail.

this theme is for early morning rides.... best in the early morning when the steam is most excellent.
QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE CASE
PROVEN: Victims were traveling at speed limit 29mph as shown by archived gps data
LEGAL: riding at the speed limit absolves obligation to ride to the right as per CVC
ILLEGAL: Dr. Thompson had to break the speed limit to pass the cyclists
INCRIMINATING: Dr. Thompson told the responding police officer that he slammed on his brakes to "teach them a lesson"
TRUTH: The Doctor learned a very value-able lesson.
SATISFACTION: seeing the doctor cuffed and carted away.
PEACE!

Every fucked up day... every day he gets pushed around... do you think a guy like this usually blames himself? I'll bet: those mother fucking cyclist, mother fuckers.... grrrrrrrrrr....

You know where the rage comes from? Being constantly harassed by clueless impatient motorists.
Would that moron doctor have treated a garbage truck, school bus, or mail man the same way?
His "innocent sweet wife" shouldn't have married such a fucking out of control road rager. This city is going to be a better place with him locked up.

You are probably one of Christopher Thompson's friends and I understand your anger.
But hear us out.
Did the Doctor have anger management issues in the past? Did his wife notice or witness such behavior in all the years she was married to him? Did his colleagues, who worked in the ER with him for 30 years, notice any explosive anger incidents or intermittent anger issues? Did everyone just turn their head and ignore a potential problem brewing? Let's face facts, your friend is now a convicted felon. He sits in LA Central Men's Jail awaiting sentencing. This isn't something that happens to a person out of the blue. Prior to this incident other bicyclists complained about Thompson's behavior on Mandeville Canyon. Yet none of his friends, colleagues or co-workers ever noticed any type of anger issues, erratic or aggressive behavior. That doesn't make sense.
This wasn't an accident. It was a malicious act. Done by a man who is sworn to "cause no harm". Yet he not only caused harm, he rendered no aid to the injured.
Why is that? Was he so angry, so hate-filled, that he forgot he was a medical doctor licensed and required to render aid to an injured individual?
Things like this don't happen in a bubble. Thompson is a convicted felon now. His life does not belong to him anymore. If we dig up his past, investigate his 30 years as a ER doctor, we probably will find the warning signs that either no one wanted to see, or everyone just ignored. He was a ticking bomb waiting to blow up. You and all his friends could have stopped that explosion...but you didn't. Don't blame the bicyclists....blame yourselves. You could have prevented this unfortunate situation.

oh YES SIR this does work. EVEN IF he comes out hating cyclists he won't do a damn thing about it but recoil into obscurity. The doctor knows what he did and he knows he did wrong, and at the very least he knows he will have to mind his p's and q's when he gets out..... cause if he doesn't he will be sent back to the big house.... the gray bar hotel, the slammer.... ha cha cha cha cha cha!

Yes csalapatas, his wife is innocent. But as urbanpedal said, she must have noticed his uncontrollable rage over the years being married to him. Who else has he abused. The nurses at the hospital? The grocery clerk at the store? Maybe even his own wife?
We should look into his past, not just to sully this man's reputation. He's already in jail. But maybe to alert the community as a whole that good, upstanding people who live in big houses up in the canyon can do horrible things. And they need to deal with their anger issues through therapy and counseling before they end up in jail.

it's hard to comprehend the rage of someone who lived a luxurious life in beverly hills... a mansion, owner of a medical supply company, having had the education and background he did.... i cant imagine the mindset it would require to get pissed about some cyclists riding in front of your house. better than a crew of hells angels or hot rod club making noise and poillution..... sheesh. we should all be so EFFIN lucky to have a life like this man had, and will have once he gets out in a year or 5..... selfish is a thought that comes to mind.... loss of perspective... maybe he needs to join doctors without borders and live in GAZA for a few years once he gets out if he is still all raged up about his life.

Here is a quote from a very smart driver who knows why people revert to road rage
"We feel invincible in our machines.
But then we’re rendered powerless by traffic.
It’s the intersection of those emotions that causes friction."

I think the OP has a point here.
Perhaps Ron Peterson planted his face into good Dr Thompson's windshield to teach him a lesson.
I don't know about you guys but when I get mad at drivers I start smashing their windshields with my head. Nose first. "Take that and that motherf***" I yell while I smash their fuckin cars with my fat greek nose.

According to the District Attorney, Mary Stone, the sentencing hearing has been postponed till after the holidays.
The defense asked for a continuance and it was granted yesterday despite the objections of the d.a.
The new date is January 8, 2008 at 8:30am.
In the meantime, Dr. Thompson is still locked up at North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, CA.
