Beer prices increasing

Now this economy is starting to hit us where it really hurts!

Even if you brew it yourself, the price of hops is high there too. I've done a handful of batches and seen the prices go up. It's still around a buck a beer, for decent beer -- which is OK, but not as cheap as I had hoped.

I'm totally for brewing my own beer. I would need some professor Borfo help to do it.

As for the majority of you......................
most of you will not carry bottles on rides.
you usually will buy one, maybe two beer at every stop, with the expection of a few, (but I have been seen more tecate multi packs being purchased..

the trouble is, how do you can the beer,
2nd, what stores do you put them in.

As for myself, I have no problems carrying 10 bottles of beer around,
and you have no problem asking me for one.

I assume we'll be working on a my Los Angelopes Keg trailer now. Use your Bicycle watter bottle for refils.

I think If I start my own beer brewing, I'm gonna call it Tren Way Beer. or Borfo Beer. "Cheap beer for Ridazz"

I used to brew my own. I was successful with every batch. The biggest thing you have to do is make everything sterile and be very good at cleanliness. My problem was that I was good at brewing my own beer. I started putting on the pounds pretty easily.

I say we switch to the hard stuff and make drinks. That or start drinking wine.

The prices will dictate our actions, so far I haven't really seen a price hike.

I'm all about brewing wine or beer for rides. I did a few batches a few years back. I made a kick ass hard cider.

Anyone interested in a brewing night? All my equipment is back in the midwest but purchasing a few carboys/bottle brushes and stainless pots is not a big deal

Save those Grolsch bottle and those one liter bottles you only find in Mexico. Man back when I was doing the art scene, there were alot of art galleries serving Grolsch. You could have picked up all the bottles you needed that one night.

Cans are easy. You can easily make homebrew in those 1.25 gallon aluminium kegs that you can buy some beers in. Hell, with some specially designed bags that allow the tap to protrude from the bag, we could just roll up behind another rider and refill a plastic cup. That said, crashing with a 1 gallon aluminium keg on your back probably won't be a whole lot more comfortable than crashing while carrying glass if you land wrong.

The side advantage to the kegs is that they are way less of a pain in the ass to use on bottling day than 50+ glass bottles and all the washing and sterilizing that goes with them. The downside is that you really need to drink the keg in its entirety within about 48 hours of tapping the keg, as the taps aren't entirely devoid of airleaks, so the beer goes flat after a couple of days. Then again, I've never met a midnight rida who would object to being forced to drink a gallon of beer over the course of a couple of days.

Is there such a thing as an insulated bag for carrying liquids? Like a water bag with a spout but insulated. Or, put the water bag in a chrome bag maybe? You'd need an easy access for the spout...

What? I'm just trying to think outside the keg, alright?

In any case, I think a trailer is going to be a requirement for our transportation needs of this home-brewed idea.

Sir Harry was thinking about getting a bobtail and believe it or not, was wondering what some of the things we can do with it.

Have you ever seen an English bloke that's against making beer? Me neither.

that great Sam, I have never had more fun while drinking/sharing beers then with one of those pony kegs from Heinkiens. I had a backpack, that was made by Heinkien especially to carry that. I know the kids face who decided to take it for himself at the Bikerowave Labor Day 2007 Bike polo matches. Time to give it back, KID! The community is going to to need it. Maybe it is sitting in the bikerowave?

I'd have to go hassle with my ex again, but she's got all my homebrew gear in her garage, which includes enough of those minikegs for 2x5 gallon batches. I'd definitely be into getting involved in homebrewing again. I just found that I don't drink enough beer to justify 5 gallon batches. I like to brew more than I like to drink. But with the help of midnight ridazz, I'm sure we could manage to find a way to get rid of it. Hell, I could just host a den dinner every month or two and probably get rid of 20 gallons at a time ;-)

my gf drags me to a lot of openings and we pick up lots of grolsch bottles for her brewer friends. i'll start giving them to the Tren Way Beer Brewmaster instead.

i brewed beer for years and have all the equipment. For the last few years i only kegged it. I have tons of 5 gallon kegs, carboys, pots, CO2, taps, etc... I also have space to brew. A bunch of us had been planning on doing it once the weather got good, so i guess it's time. We'll have to build a kegerator bike.

Too bad there's not enough time to get beer brewed for the San Diego trip.

For the monthly rides, we could have beer brewing days the day after a monthly ride in order to brew beer for the next monthly ride. At least, we could do that so long as we are brewing ales. Lagers take more than a month to be ready.

Labels could match the spoke cards of the ride in question, right? And the ingredients could often match the theme of the ride in some way.

OK, I'm getting into this idea, now.

keg bike is so much easier. you force carbonate so you don't have to wait for the bottles to carbonate, and you don't have to deal with glass bottles. we can brew 15 gallon batches with no problem and that's 3 kegs which will last quite a few rides.

iF YOU HAVE FOUND AN ABANDON BUILDING, DOES IT HAVE RUNNING WATER AND GAS? WE could find some old stoves, to put in it and cook up the beer their? Or you can tell me why this won't work.

If we pre cleaned the containers before hand, would that not be fine?

If might be difficult to get so much boiling done in one person's house.

Dave,

Call me Mr. Too Sexy, or Too Sexy For This Thread, or The Best Sexiest on MR, or My Wonderful Sexiest. Only my friends and my mother calls me User1. If you're talking about the abandon asylum it would be far too much of a hassle to do this. Anyways there's no utilities there that are working. We did find this toilet that for some reason worked, but that's the only thing we found.

Brassknuckles said we can do it at his place, that sounds perfect unless someone comes up with something better.

I'm down to help for sure. I can contribute some bux for supplies/materials and some basic knowledge of brewing. I only did a few batches about 7 years ago and wanted to get back into this for some time.

Plus slugging a few back while brewing is part of the deal.

The hop shortage is waning. Micro craft breweries are flourishing.

FYI, Oregon has 1 brewery per every 39,000 people. Portland alone is home to 32/93 of them.

California has 221 breweries. If interested, I will tell you about them.

KEEP CALM AND DRINK ON!
