LA River Path

I have been on the path a few times, I am thinking I want to be on it again, on my tandem. Is it worh it? Does the path go anywhere?

hell yeah it does! depends on where you enter it though....... you can take it all the way to long beach, or if you in the 90027 area you can roll to the valley

I am in the 90027 and don't enjoy the valley much, I was thinking Long Beach would be good. Thoughts on getting through downtown?

yeah the river path breaks off until a little south of downtown.... I wish I knew the exact streets.... anyone else know? is there a map available of the LACBC river ride? they have it all hooked up.

When I was taking the LA riverpath for the first time
I used
this map (in reverse) that The Long Beach Ridazz used to get to the all city Toy Ride.
The gret thing about the LB ride is that you can take the blue line back.
Plus there is lots of good riding, weather, and destinations in the LBC.

Or, try this, slightly alternative route.
This route is part of the Dark Century, and I have taken it many times.
The distance from Union Station is 23 miles.
Left - onto Alameda from the front of Union Station
Left - on 2nd Street, go a short distance
Right - on Santa Fe, go about 3 miles
Left - on Pacific, Pacific curves to the right, go 1/2 mile
Left - on Leonis, go about 2 miles
Leonis at some point becomes District
Cross Atlantic and then some RR tracks
Left - onto the L.A. River bike path, just after you cross Atlantic
Right - on bike path (you can’t go left very far)
Go about 5 miles to Imperial Hwy. It is important that you cross Imperial and pick up the path on the east side of the river here. Just before Imperial, you will go under the 710 freeway and notice the convergence of the Rio Hondo River into the L.A. River. Imperial is the next under pass. Go under Imperial, then make a U turn onto the sidewalk and cross the bridge and enter the bike path on the east side of the river. Continue on the bike path another 12 miles until it ends at the Long Beach shore line.

This is the route for one of AIDS LifeCycle training rides I led last year from the Bike Kitchen to Long Beach. I included a note for where you need to get off the path cross the street and change sides to continue to Long Beach.

Man I so liked taking the surface streets when we rode to Downtown LA from LB on the Toy Ride. The bike trail is ok in the day time, but at night, theres so many places that can be dicey riding at speed. Not only is it easy to have an accident, it's dark, and easy to miss a turn too. I won't mind at all taking surface streets on the Toy Ride from now on.

wow thanks Gary. didn't end up needing to look this thread up out on the road, but now I wish I would have...we plowed right into the fucking river...hahahahaaa that shit was SCARY! Glad we went that way though, it was a good scope out run. the river path will be perfect for the run to the reggae festival. nice and chill.
but yeah I really need brighter lights.

New section of LA River bike path - in Frogtown - is opening this Saturday starting 10am at Fletcher Drive and the LA River.

It's gonna take a while. My guess maybe ~2025...
There's already 18 miles - from LB to Vernon (Atlantic) - and closing that 6-mile gap downtown is very difficult/expensive (railroads to get over or under) - so a while to get from Atlantic to Elysian Park. Then there is the existing 8 miles from Elysian Park to Griffith Park... then East Valley is difficult (at grade bridges expensive to go over or under)
