Bug Out Bike.

With the recent concerns that many people are having with an uncertain future,
2012, (ELE) extinction level events, economic collapse, civil unrest, etc.

If things got to the point where you had to leave with just what you could carry,
what bike would you choose ? How would you carry your gear ?

I would go with a BMX cruiser and a Chrome Berlin bag.

How about you, what bike are you taking to the Apocolipse ?

reply

WROL I would go for my commuter with panniers full of 223 and my trusty AR.

Bear spray, SOG flash II and Kershaw Onion and good ole 1911.

Piss on your proper English class skills, I got some good sleep while in class.

As for the issue of the Bug-Out Bike, it's a hard one to narrow down.
I prefer my V-Rex with an atypical weapons/supplies load that doesn't weigh me down to the ground.
Firearms are alright, but I've been proficient with the long-bow for quite some time.
Brass casing need to be repacked, an arrow you just have to yank out of the target.

Oh, and lets not forget the bull-whip.

I'm more of an escape/evade type of person.
5.56 mm and .22 rounds could be carried in quite large proportions and not weigh you down.
But better to use those sparingly and keep any extras you might procure stored in safe-spots along pre-determined travel routes.

Bug-Out vehicles are one thing, but Bug-Out locations are essential.
You just can't wander around forever.

You read that novel "Patriots" by James Wesley Rawles yet?
Ignore the religious-overtones and it passes off some excellent info as a survival-adventure tale.

The mountain state regions in reasonable proximity to a river would be my first pick.
Plenty of small towns out there with neighborly atmospheres and front-porches.

Since getting back into OTR driving, I've been running up on some rather nice spots to purchase a few acres and slap a travel-trailer on it.

The 70 going through Utah, The 93 going through Nevada, and the various state highways in the region are typically remote and the nearest populated areas are at least 100 miles away.
While the summers are generally easy to deal with, the winters could mean the demise of those who didn't properly adapt to it.

Keeping a large-scale nuclear attack out of the picture, another good novel to touch up on is "One Second After".
A large scale EMP quite literally kicks the US in the proverbial balls and many deaths occur due to uncontrolled violence in major population centers.

Evidently, the dispersal methods for powdered Prozac were brought on too late.

. . . now?

Oh, the apocalypse is coming aaannnny day now and you can hardly wait. Everybody else was wrong, but you're about to be proven right. And all those fools (whose moral/spiritual/genetic/intellectual inferiority is demonstrated by their lack of guns) aren't getting any of your biscuits, no sir!

Now it's just a matter of choosing the right bike. Uh-huh.

The Rapture was really caused by a molecular discharge weapon that only affected a variation of assembled molecules.
The so-called "saved" were actually dematerialized and then rematerialized in a region of deep-space where they met their untimely deaths, all 500,000,000 of them.

Zealous powers that be used this as an excuse to grab control of shock-infused governments and present their own form of one-world rule.

The visions many get of the Lake-of-Fire and other biblical prophecies spun into a literal existence are merely psychotic visions implanted into the neuro-fibers of the population via ELF-transmitting satellites in Low-Earth Orbit.

This perfect storm created by shadow-powers is what will cause all we've built to come crashing down.

Some theorize that you will be safer to stay in the city.
This would be due to the posibility of having a community around to provide
protection for each other.

Where as being isolated in the middle of nowhere could be more dangerous as you could easily be out numbered by roving gangs of flesh eating Zombies.

Where do you think the roving hordes of < insert blank here > would be coming from?

Besides, if there was limited authority and the rural areas were thrown on the administrative back-burner, it would make sense to set up multiple bug-out points within a reasonable proximity of one another.

Natural caves, buried cargo containers, and even simple tree houses in a coniferous forest would be sufficient areas to regroup and wait it out.
Eventually, you could return and reclaim.

Yes this would be a logical strategy, but cities don't foster communities of like minds. Especially here in Commifornia.

Plus with so many organized gangs in LA they seem like a natural group to fill the vacuum of authority.

I say make connections outside the state, maybe in Arizona....

A loaded iPod along with a loaded weapon are the two best things to have while society tries to sort itself out.
The way I see it, I'd probably go nut-balls if the only option was humming tunes to myself to pass the times.
Of all the tech that has been developed, media storage and players are the ones I possibly couldn't live without.

The next best alternative would be carting around a brass and wood-wind orchestra.

I made up my mind years ago that if there's an apocalypse I want to die in it. Death is vastly preferable to life on a planet where the only other people left are "survivalists."

To each their own, but the lot of us will drop the survival facade once the brigands have lost their steam and go back to playing cards on our Amish-contracted porches.

HAHA, my favorite quote from that thread:

"i love this site. anything goes. one minute it's zombies, the next is imachynna laying under earthquake rubble wishing she had gone on the internet one last time. :P"

After all the dust settles, my new goal will be to clean out old cargo ships and turn them into comfort-resorts.

The barren landscapes getting you down? Marauding bands of cannibals wearing your tendons to the last fiber? Tired of that pasty, vampire complexion brought on by all those years of underground living and/or hazmat suit wearing?

Then come on down to After-The-Storm enterprises!!!
We specialize in comfort-room relaxation, week-long to permanent trips to areas of uninterrupted sunshine and contaminant free breathing, and who could forget our converted cargo-ship farms!!!!
Started with what were the remains of a former bulk transporter, we have now expanded to 40 supertankers permanently anchored in properly surveyed spots free of contamination and equipped with wind-mill powered water and soil filtration and preparation!!
So, walk down, run down, bicycle down, fire up that old Chrysler and clunk down!! Spots fill up fast and our vellum registers could only handle so much, so hurry on down!!!

We gladly accept gold, silver, uranium, deuterium, delerium, brass, tin, engine blocks, essentially any solid currency that could be melted down and made into something useful in our state-of-the-art, Amish kilns. Also, Mastercard, Visa, EBT, or anything with a STAR-logo will fly dependent on the availability of generator power at the time of the day.
