Burbank stolen bike story

On Saturday, I was riding past Burbank CIty Hall and saw a guy walking a mountain bike. As I rode by, he offered to sell it to me.
The guy was sketchy, so I asked him a few questions about the bike (what year was it, what kind of components, what size wheels) and it was obvious the thing was NOT his.
I'll post a pic when I get home, but it was a nice Pacifica with a busted shifter, full suspension MTB. Dude had some balls to be trying to sell a stolen bike less than a block from the Police Station.

pacifica bikes arent nice. they might get you from point a to point b, but they are not nice.

I ride a 100 dollar BMX, so compared to my ride, it was fairly nice.
If I had to guess, the Pacifica was prolly worth 300-400 bucks.
My point posting at all was to advise people in the Burbank area to keep an eye on their rides, and to alert anyone that may have had their bike taken from the area over the weekend.

Yeah, Harry was just telling us a story yesterday about getting back his bike after it was stolen 8 months earlier. It was also a kid in Burbank, (in the neighborhood that I live), so I'll be sure to take extra care of my babies. Thanks.

RBI has proved that bike thieves in Burbank have bad taste, and that I don't know wtf a "nice" bike is.
Maybe next time I'll just not post and try to give anyone a heads-up, but yeah, just be mindful of your ride in that area kids :)

Well, you gotta give bananaphone some credit.
That bike might've belonged to someone, and regardless of it not being in the "more-expensive than what I make/month", it shouldn't be tossed to the side that easily.
I mean, some of us can't pull $100.00 out of our ass at a shock-moment like, finding the bike missing and a cut chain/cable/lock on the floor.

if you ride a cheap bike like a pacifica youre probably not going to be able to answer the types of questions you were answering. or every bicycle is a stolen bicycle.

banaphone. It was worthwhile. thanks for posting. hope more people do this. would be nice to set up a shared google map where we would map out all these stories and have a runnning database of bicycle theft and bicycle incidents. MR 2.0 iz cmmin

the kid who was involved with the theft of my bike is in jail awaiting trial for grand theft. Kinda interesting as I got it back eh!!??
He had an accomplice. who has a tatoo on his torso right side of his body just above his hips, doesn't wear shirts to show off his tatoo, rusty blond shoulder length hair and approx. 20 yrs old. They went to Burrough's High.

btw, the day after mine was stolen one of the midnightridazz saw kids with it the same or next night. At that time he didn't know me but noticed unusal things about the bike. We connected in a bike shop next day and talked about it. NEtworking here and with bike shops can sometimes bring happy results

The dude was prolly mid-20s, had a large tat on his right forearm (possible sleeve, couldn't tell), and had sandy blonde hair fairly short.
I assume he was a tweaker because he was wearing Hilfiger (lol) but looked like he had been riding the bus around LA in it for a few days.
He really seemed almost desperate to sell the bike for some quick cash. After several minutes of talking with him, he even offered to trade me it for the POS I was riding. That's when I knew he was full of shit and decided to cut our convo short and bolt. I began to worry that he was casing my ride for the 2 or 3 minutes we were talking.
Anyway, sorry for making a big thing of it, but after hearing about bikes disappearing around here more often and seeing this guy, I guess I got a little paranoid and wanted to inform someone. I would have gone to the cops right after seeing him, but I had just taken a few bongrips at a friend's. Not to mention, most Burbank PD are assholes.

Burroughs High, the main high school of that even, more desolated city to the north of Victimville, Ridgecrest.
Only reason that place exists is due to China Lake NAS.
Place is like 20 miles off of the 395 going towards Reno.

Damn, you know all my old desert haunts.
I actually watched my cousin play football at Burroughs one Friday night back in 1978 or so before my motorcycle race near Randsburg, CA. He actually went to one of the Riverside high schools who were in the same league as Burroughs. Since we were in the area camping for the race we drove up and watched the game.
Ridgecrest also had one of the funnest mtn bike races from around 1988 to 1996. They actually had around $300 in $10 and $20 coupons stapled to stakes 20 to 30 yards off the course for the non-pros. The fast non-pros had the decision to stop and run over to get the cash, or to continue going for the win.
