Went to pay my Verizon bill in person paying cash.
They charged me a $ 3.00 fee for paying in cash.

Fuck Verizon.
It was always something with them.
"Oh, you'll be using your phone for talking?"
"Um, yeah."
"That's gonna be $3 a month."

i hope you have a receipt,
its stupid because they dont charge a 3.99 fee when purchasing accesories in cash. and they dont charge a fee to pay your bill by debit/credit check in store. so the two doesnt add up enough to justify their offset cost for new software.
i dont know the extent of your award in a civil suit, but dude it might be worth it.
lawyers? eh?

Good thiking june.
I wish I had my bar card. The problem with lawyers suing telecommunication company is that they will come to a agreement to collect the legal fees and give a bullshit settlement of free minutes or you can get 10% off accessories. I wish some lawyers or law firms would stick it to them with making them pay the victim (customer) some cash.
What I hate about Verizon is that they will every so often make you listen to your saved messages before they will let you hear your new message. It usually happens when you really need to hear that message. What I do about this when it happens is call customer service and ask that a supervisor be part of the call. So now I got two of Verizon paid employees having to waste time listening to all my messages with me. I make them listen to every message. I comment on all the messages to the employees, it actually really humorous to do. What this does is cost Verizon more employee cost.
I would have left Verizon long ago, but they have a service that is really necessary for me. AT&T has the same service, but they are the devil when Verizon is more akin to Bush.
They won't share their towers with other tele com companys.
So people that have service in outlining areas have to a pay a premium for roaming fees with their own company.

hmm, i suggest you try to do it again next time,
pay by cash
when you go in, they must have a policy written somewhere in corporate letterhead that justifies the 3.99 fee.
hold this receipt, and go back, if they don't have it, file a complaint with the manager, send an e-mail to corporate, and report them to BBB.
you might be able to get credit towards your next bill if not more.

one time after shipping 4 defective handhelds to me, after taking the right actions for being charged shipping and handling on all 4, i was refunded my fees and awarded 2 months of free service (with the exception of overages and additional services)
just threaten to make a big deal about it. the bigger and more plausible the threat is, the more you're likely to win something out of it.

My lawyer is bored, I'm going to see what he thinks.
I like the lawsuit idea, then I can alert the media giving them bad press.
