This comes from a friend of mine in the marketing department at CHOC so it's legit. I believe O+ is the most common blood type
I have no doubt that there are many children who could benefit from
blood donations at CHOC, but here is one specific incident that came to
our attention through part of our extended UCP family. I hope you will
give it your consideration.
If anyone is O+ and lives near Children's Hospital Orange County, please
consider donating and spreading the word.
A young boy, named Dexter, was admitted to CHOC this week to undergo an
aggressive 5 week treatment to cleanse his system of the strep bacteria
& his own body's antigens that are attacking his body.
Protocol for storing new antigens during this procedure is to store
clean antigens in a saline solution before they enter the patient's body
- unfortunately, the saline solution 'burns' (feels like it is burning,
not actually burning) when it enters the body - Dexter's care team would
like to store the clean antigens in blood in order to eliminate the
saline burn - this is where the call for help comes in - Dexter is O+
(yes, O positive) and needs O+ blood to store the antigens. If they have
healthy blood to store them in, there is not a need for the saline
solution that is typically used.
If you, or anyone you know, is O+, you can go to CHOC & donate for
Dexter - this is a specific request & all O+ blood donated for Dexter
will be used for his treatment. If you are interested, you can call CHOC
Hematology blood and donor services immediately. It takes 5 days for the
blood to be processed and they need lots and they need it now.
The number is 1-714-532-8339. Ask for Maggie. This is a designated donor
program. Please specify that this is to be used for John Dexter Russo.
Here is your opportunity to provide HOPE to Dexter and his family.
