LACBC 4th Street Bike Blvd. Campaign Meeting

I first learned about 4th St. via ingapet, an MRDC user who had created an art/activist intervention called 4SBB that both celebrated the comfortably low traffic experience of 4th Street and Pointed to lots of much needed improvements.

Please lets not let sharrows on 4th (which would be on my bottom 10 list of streets that need sharrows) provide any cover for the REAL improvements that 4th needs:

• Fixing unexpected 2 way stops
• Bike or ped. cross-ride/ cross walk at major streets: Rossmore and Highland.
• Repairing "The Hudson River" which is a 2 way stop, at the bottom of a hill in both directions, that has potholes hidden by the standing water which covers much of the intersection, 365 days a year and had downed several experienced cyclists.

While I will not complain about properly placed sharrows on any street (because they all need them) I think that if there is any known data on dooring, sideswipes, and complaints about aggressive passing, there must be 100 streets in LA that mark as a higher priority for sharrows.

Its frustrating that the LADOT has started with the lowest priority in terms of fixing this street, but we can use the attention an an opportunity to get needed repairs to this important cycling artery.

Big props to LACBC and everybody else who has stuck with this issue, for tenaciously working away on safety hazards that have been continuously pointed out to the City Council, LABAC, & LADOT with out remedy for at least 3+ years.

It way past time to fix 4th street.

I've got it on my calendar. I ride this street every day, and motorists treat it like a speedway. It's the scariest stretch of my ride, strangely.

that's never been my experience with it.

Anyway, the whole Hancock Park stretch needs to repaved a.s.a.p.

Same with gav.
I've found ppl to be much more chill than most places.
Occasionally a few agro drivers that are trying to beat traffic by racing up to each stop sign ... but that has been more the exception than the rule for me.

Then again, i haven't taken 4sbb much lately.

hahaha yes the hudson river (I've never heard of that name but I dig it). The security guards that sit there must take bets to see how many people eat it! I enjoy riding fixie though there late at night and buzzing the car.
