As for advice, I flew LTU into Düsseldorf. I just put my touring bike in a cardboard bike box, and assembled it at the Hostel where I was staying. Getting home was a little more difficult as you need to box your bike and get it to some form of transport (I decided this would be too hard in Italy, so I left my bike at a co-op I had worked at. It should be easier in Germany where things such as public transportation generally work). If you can get to a train though with the box it shouldn't be too hard.
Deutsche Bahn also has the call a bikes that Borfo referred to, they could be useful for transport but since I was always on my bike it wouldn't really have made economical sense.
Have fun in Berlin it was quite fun, inexpensive, livable, one of my favorite cities.

to follow up on Joe's call-a-bike,
per my experience, it's super chill and very convienent. You find one of these bikes, say at the reichstag, and dial their number, which is displayed on the pad of the bike, and then dial their bike code. You'll have to wait a few seconds to a minute for the bike to activate and then you're set and ready to roll. I would love to go to Berlin this year for the CCC this year, but I'm slammed with family stuff here sadly. So I'll try to be there next year. If you have a world GSM phone, you should be fine, if not, use a disposable vodaphone sold by the Alexanderplatz or the Potsdamer platz (where the sony centere is) in Berlin.
