DTLA to LB

So I'm going to ride to Long Beach from Downtown, as the thread suggests.
The only issue is that I don't quite understand where to get on the riverpath here in Los Angeles. Can anyone experienced with the riverpath explain this to me? Diagrams would be awesome if you could provide them.
I tried looking at the all city toy ride route, but as you get closer to downtown, it throws you onto surface streets.
Someone clarify?

FYI / FWIW, I think some others are planning on going to LB for the toy ride -- we're talking about taking the Blue Line down, from the 7th & Figueroa DTLA stop.

Thanks trickmilla, I have seen that.
My question is, why do I have to ride south of downtown to get onto the river path? May seem like a stupid question, but I am still new (compared to a lot of the locals) to LA.

Here it is. You go east on District for about 50 feet, cross the tracks, that would be heading towards the river, and that's where it starts.

This is where the path starts again. It's not a continuous path.

brendan, be careful at the 105 overpass - you have to get off the path and cross to the other side on the sidewalk, otherwise you'll end in pedro instead.
maybe someone else can explain that better - gary?

As I recall, there's a WalMart D/C hidden alongside there.
I delivered there a few times and remember seeing the signs for the path on opposite ends of the bridge, but not two entrances/exits.

Can we put this urban legend to rest? You will not end up in Pedro if you fail to cross the river at that spot. You won't go where you thought you were going, but you won't end up in Pedro.

Yes, I can. The crucial cross over is at Imperial Highway. Going south to Long Beach, you must cross at Imperial, or else you will spend the night on P.C.'s couch.
You will know you are at Imperial as it is just after the 710 freeway underpass. Keep your eye on the river. Just after the 710 underpass, the Rio Hondo River converges with the L.A. River.
It is less than a quarter mile from the 710 underpass to Imperial. Go under Imperial and make a U turn when you come up on the south side to get to the very safe sidewalk crossover.
If you get to the 105 and you are still on the west side of the river, turnaround. You have gone about a mile too far.

Imperial is almost exactly 5 miles from the entrance to the river trail at Atlantic and District.

The entrance as mentioned is south of LA, due to it not being connected to northern section yet. You pass Atlantic if you are coming from North, and there is a little barely marked on ramp to the path. be careful, it is small but steep and can have glass. I've seen people almost fall on it.
The change over is at Imperial, going south you pass 710 Freeway and imperial is first exit. Go under street and loop around up to sidewalk, cross to other side and go onto path on other side. This is silly, convoluted and not well labeled, hey it's LA. Also you can tell imperial sidewalk because it is narrow with tall fencing and a divder that separates sidewalk from road.
Then it's a straight shot to LB. Another landmark for this change over is the San Gabriel path connects to LA River here, and you can see big V concrete intersection where two bodies of water meet.
Here is the route map for our Downtown to Long Beach ride we did recently, it marks where the change over happens as well as first and last entrance exits are. Also the Metro bike map has labeled markers for where on ramps are located along the pathway system.

Kyber, you'll want to pay particular attention to these last few posts--the crossover is at Imperial Highway,
not at the 105.

maybe contact Ahn or Danny Zuko. they just did LA to LB via the riverpath last Sunday. I was supposed to be there too but shit happened. if you are looking for another to join on the ride lemme know.
