Bike On the Gold LIne

They have recently opened the gold line which I can ride to and hop to downtown or pasadena. However, I've never taken my bike on the train. Can somebody explain to me how to get my bike on the train and all that? Thanks.

You just walk your bike in. Usually the best place is in the middle of the train. There are hand bars there that you can lock your bike to to stabilize so you can sit down.

step 1) take bike to train station
step 2) buy ticket
step 3) board train with bike
step 4) exit at your destination
step 5) don't leave your bike behind.

Security / Sheriff require that you use the back section of each car to stand with your bike. They will probably give you shit about bringing a bike on the gold line at peak hours. I think this is really stupid, but that's the way they handle it. However, a lot of the time you can end up standing in different parts of the cars. Even during peak hours you can get away with not being at "THE BACK". You basically want to make sure that you can stand with your bike out of the flow of people coming on and off.

I think the back section is for the Red Line only. The Gold Line the middle accordion part is best because it has the most open space.

I've heard about the peak hour thing, but the cops have never said anything to me. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever been sweated for this?

I have gotten a stern talking to about the peak hours thing... LAME... But no sheriff wants to deal with the headache.. I pass them all the time and not one person says anything to me ...

You are right as long as your not being outrageous like some people I see on the train and block the door... not one person is going to say anything... just use common sense ..

Because like most transit organizations in this country they are broke and can't afford extended service hours.

Well, at least the train is running while everyone needs to get to and from work/school.
Too much complaining about the system there, but there are other areas where the hours are even shorter and you're on your own after that.

I'm sure they close early on weekends precisely because they don't want to deal with the late night weekend crowd. All the drunks getting out of the bars at 2am and crowding onto trains... barfing, being noisy and rowdy, getting into fights, God forbid falling onto the tracks... crowding the train with bikes...
As for the turnstiles, practice your bunny hopping skills.
I don't have to use Metro that often, but the only people I've ever been hassled by are Orange Line drivers who keep telling me I put my bike on the rack wrong when I didn't, or that I'm lucky they let me on the bus, but just this once, because it's the last one of the night (at 11pm? wtf?).
