I just bought a used single speed bike from craigslist.... frame is solid a lil rust on the spokes and crank arms. i rode the mofunka to and from work(5 miles max) and the shit is smooth as fuckin ice!!!
I borrowed a friends fixie to see if i would like it and i want to convert the beater into a fixie...
Is the rust that big a problem?
reply
depends how deep the rust has eaten...if it is working well, then it is probably just a little surface rust....some sand paper and paint will take care of it.

I know its a dumb question....but if i leave the rust will it damage the bike more? i like the look of the bike

maybe just rub it down with some light duty steel wool and a rag with a little wd40 on it to help keep the rust off.
If you like the bike that much, its worth protecting.

Rust is AWESOMELY solved by Coke and aluminum foil. Seriously. Just pour some coke on the foil and use it like a rag (kinda). It works really well. Look up "SHINY SPOKES" in the threads, you'll see.
