there was a ride (maybe ridearc?) that was going through griffith park at night that ran into him giving a moonlight tour with the sierra club.

AAAHHAAHHAA fucking Huell Howser!!!
This brings back fond memories of watching TV with my dad laughing our asses off at how excited Huell would get over dumb shit like biting into an apple at Oak Glen.
Then I was at a vintage ride at Newport a couple years ago and saw old Huellie walking down the street all by his lonesome and my dad subsequently makes me take a picture with him. it was hilarious. We were expecting him to get all excited over all of the old bikes around, but he didn't seem to care. My dad always wanted him to do something on these old Schwinn rides, but to no avail

Huell encounter?

Last night Alice & I took what has become our customary Wednesday evening ride up the bike path and into the wilds of Griffith Park. After reaching the summit, we usually go on to the Observatory, but when we got to the top last night I suggested that we descend via the left fork, which is the rougher and less travelled route. The full moon was out, so I figured it was as good a time as any.
Apart from deer, coyotes and other things rustling in the night, we had the roads to ourselves, but about halfway down we came upon a group of hikers gathered in the middle of the road, shaded from the bright moonlight by a large tree. They seemed surprised to see a pair of cyclists, but parted to allow us to pass. We exchanged pleasantries as we rolled past, then a strangely familiar voice twanged out, "Y'all are brave to be doing this night!" I remarked that this was easy compared to riding with no moon and we rolled on.
That twang echoed in my ears as we continued to navigate the descent, but it took another ten minutes or so for my memory to fully engage: was that the voice of none other than Huell Howser? Had we unintentionally executed a mini "Swarm the Huell Ride"?
We may never know . . .
