I miss the 90s. There's so much fun in this photo I don't even know where to start....the priceless Yeti prototype? The Coors? The dropoff in the trail with those brakes? The Oakley Blades?

those are canti brakes, still popular with cyclocross (which is what that guys doing) because of their superior stopping power compared to road bike brakes. i dont understand that comment.

Most mountain bikes these days use disc or V-brakes which are even more powerful.

Shoulda been more specific - I was referring to the brake levers...just so dainty looking. As for cyclocrossers and their cantis, I always thought the primary reason for their continued usage is their additional mud clearance. Cantilevers are decidedly inferior to v-brakes or discs in terms of outright power but I figured the better modulation is the reason they never moved to v-brakes or discs.

Oh, and that ain't a cyclocrosser...that's just good old Johnny T (already a 3-time NORBA mountain bike champion) and his road preferences messing around in the woods. I think he was still living in Belgium and racing the euro pro circuit for the 7-Eleven or Motorola at that time.

and i meant cantis have more stopping power in the wet and mud than normal road bike brakes.

My Bontrager not a 'cross bike because it's a mtn bike that I rode until I built my Double Cross 3 years ago. Been meaning to build the frame as an SS but have no money so it's hanging on the wall of my garage. Original Bontrager composite fork!

Oooh, nice fork. Old Bontrager frames are so clean. Been looking for a reasonable Syncros fork for my '91 Rocky Mountain. Or air cartridges for my original Manitou. Might have to do drop bars too, after all this.
