hey Ladies, I'm glad to report that GOGA is a seriously cool ride. Being the only guy that has ever gone on it, I will say that they keep it fun and the route I did with them was well planned. I encourage all you female ridazz to join in the fun. They stop for lights and keep the group together. RIDE GOGA. It's a good workout.

ZOMG I'm leaving in 10 minutes to be there in 40.
tomato, I expect that the ride will go west first, but I don't know. So we'll probably cruise past your neighborhood near the end of the ride, if that was your question. But really, north Culver's not so far from the start point. I say ride there, no matter which way we start biking.
That's pretty much how I started biking as much/as far as I do. By not knowing the direction/length of the ride, going anyway, and being forced to suck it up. Now, I bike almost everywhere I go. (I occasionally drive to visit my cousin. She lives in Pasadena.) Last week, I biked from El Segundo to West Hollywood for a couple drinks.
But then I am criminally insane.

yay GOGA, we had great turn out tonight!
hopefully this will encourage more girls to come out in the future...we did a moderate paced ride down towards LAX and clocked a little over 20 miles. climbed a fun little hill (Centinela N. bound from Venice) and had a grumpy old man yell out of his SUV for us "lesbians to get out off the road..."

where should we go this week ladies?
tomato08.4.08 - 8:05 am
reply
I was thinking that depending on the skill set of who turns up tomorrow, we could either:
A) go explore Little Tokyo (This will be on the longish side ~35 miles but we can break into groups based on pace if we start to spread too much...)
B) we could go to Scoops which would be easy and chill, and those who want to go home early can just do that, and the girls who want to ride longer (and have lights) can go ride up to Griffith Park on the Riverside side. I rode that this weekend, there is some climbing at the start tho...
C) we could do a redo of the Palisades ride from a couple weeks ago.
Any other thoughts?
nancine08.4.08 - 12:17 pm
reply
the palisades ride sounds like a good idea (keep it on the westside maybe?)
last week was really scary when we ventured into the depths of creepy LA and down into Vernon.
anyone else- other thoughts? i'm down with the palisades. i loved the bluffs last time and we could wander around the neighborhoods there.

^^^^NO!!!! -1000!!
Tren Way rides are probably moving to Wednesdays, and I'm thinking of trying GOGA. I heard that you guys did the old Armed Librarians ride, and I'm all for awesome industrial eastside L.A. riding.
I LOVE RIDING IN THE CITY!

P.S. Oops - I just realized this was specifically for tomorrow's ride. Sorry - not doing the westside GOGA. You can ignore me.
But I am passionate about gritty eastside rides.
Ms. Stephanie08.4.08 - 12:53 pm
reply
maybe for the eastside ride next week. we need more eastside girls to come out. plus i think it would be safer if we had a bigger group when going into those parts.
tomato08.4.08 - 12:55 pm
reply
I'm down for a gritty Eastside ride next week fo' sure!
I think the most important thing about gritty rides is that we stay vigilant, if you ever feel followed or unsafe, be vocal and let the rest of the ride know! The other threads on the forum regarding violence against cyclists just show that we are vulnerable in any part of the city.

tomato08.4.08 - 3:57 pm
reply
Hmm. Gritty Eastside ride that can be handled by useless lungs? Sounds like my kind of ride. Perhaps I can come and (make it? is this possible? it's not as hard as it sounds? !!!:O :D) and then feel really happy and accomplished.
imachynna08.4.08 - 4:07 pm
reply
yeah i feel accomplished each time. i don't smoke, but i am always gasping for air.
we average 17mph and up depending on the road/wind/hills- so you have an idea
tomato08.4.08 - 4:16 pm
reply
But don't let the pace freak you because we're not going to drop you on GOGA, esp. not in some skeezy neighborhood! We wait at stop lights and turns and do headcounts, and if you are falling behind but want to work and finish, someone is going to come ride with you and make sure you're not left dangling solo.
My first ride, we lost a girl in the park to a flat because she was at the end of the pack, when we came up short in the headcount, Tattiya rode back and found her, and then we all chilled while she fixed her flat.
No woman left behind!

chynna, warning you, goga broke me. i did half of it and thought i was going to puke. yet again i was on a hybrid, but still, its not an easy ride. and it was their " mellower" week too.
tinycities08.4.08 - 4:53 pm
reply
@tinycities I'm sorry you felt that way! =( The hybrids can make it tough and GOGA = SWEATING, but I'm sure if you come back on another ride, we'll find a route that we can all do!
nancine08.4.08 - 5:51 pm
reply
17 mph and up!
Holy *#$$@!
Actually, I have no idea how fast I ride. That just sounds fast to me.
That's okay. I figure, if I get dropped, I get dropped. Eventually, I'll be able to keep up.
Besides, Tomato is my hero. I'm kind of a newbie, but I think she's even newer than me. But she's been working at getting stronger, and she's rocking! I'm going to be like her when I grow up and do GOGA.

Next week, Eastside GOGA! We'll discuss the logistics of the Westside ride out later...

Cross-posting to our facebook group, but any word on the Eastside ride tomorrow?
I may be working (or recovering from working all night tonight...) so I may or may not be coming out for the Westside to Eastside...

ugh i'm not feeling better and not sure how far i can push myself tomorrow night but i think i'm going to try. if i don't get miles in this week i'll be fucked for my century on saturday. i gave my bike a super duper clean today with the sick day i took from work.
i don't know the eastside at all so we could do a westside bound route and back. i can ride out alone or with tracy. once i get to the start point i can decide if i can go more- dayquil to the rescue but i have a hard time breathing- i'm going to try.
tomato08.11.08 - 10:03 pm

Tomato: Let's touch base tomorrow.
I'm going to email K and see if she's back in town tomorrow and coming out to ride. The other option is that we could roll out there and if there isn't anyone around, we could go to Los Feliz into Atwater Village and back. Maybe even get in some Casa Bianca pizza?
nancine08.11.08 - 10:49 pm
reply
Okay since no route has been posted for tonight's Eastside ride and Kristen says she's not making it...should we go East to ride tonight? Headcount looks like possibly four tonight...I've slept 3 hours and am a little foggy, Tomato, you still sick?
Let's ride to Scoops and wait 30 minutes, if no one shows we can ride to Little Tokyo and scout routes for the next Westside ride?
Let's not go full throttle cause I might fall asleep on my bike!

ms steph come out! no it starts at scoops and should end at scoops like it normally does- we are riding out from the westside since we live over here. i think that's what's happening. i know i'm meeting nancy at 7:30 at robertson/national and riding up to scoops.
meet us there at 8:30. the more the merrier! we need more eastside girls!

Didn't make it to Casa Bianca as I had hoped.
Next week Westside GOGA is going to do a longish ride to Little Tokyo. Be prepared for a moderate-fast ride that goes about 35miles total.
Now to enjoy my fruity cocktail....
nancine08.13.08 - 12:08 am
reply
Damn - I didn't look back at the thread. I did my own ride over in the very area. Next time, ladies! Actually, I live downtown, so I'm thinking of heading out to the Westside next week, and riding with you back to Little Tokyo and then breaking off, just to get a feel of the pace. How's that for a plan.
Ms. Stephanie08.13.08 - 10:21 am

Ms Stephanie, Yea that would be great! We're going to be doing more of a moderate/fast-ish ride so come on out!
nancine08.13.08 - 10:46 am

This is the route I'm proposing for tomorrow.
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2183761
It's about 33 miles, so we need to leave Bikrowave at 8:30 sharp and we'll be doing a good clip (think fast for GOGA). This is definitely going to be a road bike/fixie...hybrids and mountain bikes aren't going to be happy. If someone wants to do more climbing than this, we can opt to do Olympic instead of Venice as our East bound street.
Can someone please bring a fold up pump? Mine's not arriving for another week. I'll bring a wrench.
nancine08.18.08 - 2:38 pm
reply
i'm excited for tomorrow. route looks cool EXCEPT venice blvd- can we take olympic or 3rd- something a little more north? too close for comfort to where i got hit. i know i'm a baby but it doesn't seem like a good idea.
what do you think?
and thanks for coming up with a route!
tomato08.18.08 - 5:24 pm
reply
I'm more than happy to take something further North like Olympic (and I personally like that little climb into Century City) but I wanted to make it fairly flat for people. We could do Olympic and then cut down to Pico...I don't like super busy streets in Ktown....
nancine08.18.08 - 5:27 pm
reply
sounds good. we can talk when we're all together but i don't mind olympic. it would be a good workout for everyone...
i'm not very familiar with pico (as far as hills and potholes) but whatever works
tomato08.18.08 - 6:26 pm
reply
A thought!
So the all city race is coming up and some super fast boys are training tonight- leaving bicrowave at 8pm. My thought is to start off our ride following them for as long as we can because from what I gather they are going to be sprinting?
It is jsut a thought since we are a "lets get fast group. "
I like your route too Nancy! maybe we can figure out a way to combine the two?
shadylane08.19.08 - 10:02 am
reply
Yea, you should def do that! It's probably going to be a long ride for the All City guys, so they may take the first half of it rather slow. Regardless, this epic opportunity should not be missed.

epic fail. i think it was all my fault. i thought we'd ride with the guys for a little and then drop but no girls followed. then me and tracy were alone with no way of fixing a flat (in case we got one further down the road) so we went home.
nancy- weird that you were left hanging alone for a while. hope the ride went okay after all the confusion. i'm so sad i didn't get to ride more tonight.
