Mission Madness

Thread started by

We're planning a ride in SF on the 5ht of July, tentatively starting in the mission.
Hopefully we can get a good sized group of locals to join us. Theres already at least 5 people from L.A. making the trip so either way it will be a good ride.
If you can't make it but have friends in SF, let them knwo. All bikes and all riders welcome.

Please someone give these people a ride. SF needs them. And you need SF. Make it happen. Make it shiny.

selling eggs looks good. a friend in college did that and she got cancer a year or two later. i don't know if there was a correlation, but they were surely pumping her full of hormones.

If anyone has a bike rack we can use then the car will fit 4 people instead of 2. Funanu will be the third.

Matt, I sent you an email. If seat number four exists and is still open, I'll take it (for the trip up, anyway).
If Annie can go, she obviously gets priority, for being awesome.

So i been talking to the guys on La fixed to see if they know of anyone that might want to ride with us on Saturday. I learned a few interesting things.
1. The mission in not a good place to have a ride on staurday night. (thanks superfish) .
2. Luckily i was wrong about the location The bike kitchen is in fact on mission st at the address in the ride posting, however thats not the mission... It's the Soma district. That means we should maybe change the name of the ride and also now we have to bring Handbone.
3. Some of those guys think MR is dumb and messengers are gods gift to the world.
4. Theres also a cool 3-day messenger event going on that weekend in SF called quake city rumble. If we find out where they are gonna be saturday night we could have the ride meet up with them at some point. hopefully they will accept our love if not.... on to the next adventure.

1. From what I've been told by multiple people, SF in general is not really a good place for a ride, since it is all tracks and hills. But I'm down for whatever.
2. Hm. Yeah, this also changes what I was working on for a flyer and spoke card. What were you thinking as far as a new name?
3. LA Fixed, this is a support group for people who have been neutered, right? (Joke, guys, just a joke!)
4. Sounds cool. From what little info found online, it seems to be a race, not a ride though. But it could be fun to check it out. Weird though that there isn't a webpage for it and no blog seems to say anything about where it is. Maybe they are more concerned in SF about tipping off the law than we are?

Also, I notice that the SF Bike Kitchen is having a BBQ on the 4th from 4-9pm. We should try to hit that up.

The rumble thing sounds fun, but during daylight hours I'll mostly be hanging with the family. Also, LAfixed is kind of hilarious sometimes...

We should go to that BBQ for sure just to talk to some locals about a route and pass out the flyer.

LAfixed is funny. I hear folks talking about how the board breaks fairly frequently.
Also, MR.com is impossible to "figure out." And even harder to use.
I may be able to offer a ride up to the Bay Area, but not a ride back. Does this help anyone?
Also, by Bay Area I mean Santa Cruz. My brother said it's a 75 mile ride from SC to SF. There is also a bus if you're not feelin your oats. (that's 75 miles on the coastal hwy 1)

i have NO IDEA how many people will show up. Looks like 10 at the very least. Maybe 50 or 60 if we are lucky. Do you have a laminator?

No laminator here. I was just going to go to a place. Staples? Office Depot? Some place like that. (NOT KINKO'S!)
Anyone got a free/cheap lamination (or, for that matter, color laser printer) hook up that I could use sometime between now and, like, 9 tonight?

I was actually hoping we could make a slightly earlier start. Like maybe depart LA around 11am. Which might mean meeting at 10-10:30.
I could probably get to your place on bike/Metro without any problem. But being picked up would definitely be easier for me (though not for you, so.....).

I emailed the Sean from the old frisco thread (later.means.never), so if he didn't know before, he knows now.
Also, my brother just moved to SF (as in literally just pulled into town 4 hours ago), and I told him to have his bike ready.
So our local contingent is growing. We might be inadvertently starting Crank Mob SF after all...

Here's the route:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2055668http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2055668.
I have it stopping at Zeitgeist, since that is essentially where the ride ended (though some of us did pass by the Kitchen again eventually). Just under 20 miles (which is more than I thought it was) and only slightly more than 300 ft. at its highest (which was less than I would've thought possible in such a freakin' hilly city). Overall, a pretty good route. Though I was feeling a little bad when we were at that one stop and the police rolled up and basically said, "Uh, do you guys realize where you are?" Not that I was scared, I just didn't want to be responsible, if anything happened. But all turned out A-OK.
Pix soon............

If you guys want to see what bikes and cars coexisting on the road looks like, ride around in SF sometime. Mucho bikes lanes and sharrows and real bike routes (with numbers and everything). It ain't perfect, but it is WAY ahead of LA. And for a city that is all hills and tracks, that is really saying something.
