Please shed some light on the bike messenger business.
I hear from bicycle messengers tales of the company treating them badly. I hear Kid say in this video the company he was working for was treating him bad.
I wonder if the reason they are all being treated bad is because very little to no money is being made. I've been involved in various business, and had different jobs. Everything is usually fine with everyone (bar the usual politics) as long as money is being brought in and everybody is making something. If money isn't being made, people lose their tempers real easy. It stressful and it pulls your world apart to not have money, especially if your trying to make a business happen.
Kid went on to say that he is not making money, that he might have to lose his apartment and sleep in the office. I know businesses have start up cost. What is so expensive with this business? Rent on the office, telephone, walkie talkie communication cost, is there insurances and permits to operate this business.
What I'm asking is it even financially viable to have a messenger service where you could make money as a owner? Realistically. Still be able to pay the messenger a livable wage.
