Collections Assistant (Unclassified 8421, Community Rec. Director III)
Permanent Collection Cataloguing Project

Part-time, 20 to 25 hour per week, schedule to be arranged

Scope of Work:
Vincent Price Art Museum (VPAM) at East Los Angeles College is seeking a part-time Collections Assistant who will provide support in cataloguing our permanent collection. VPAM's collection consists of more than 8,000 objects ranging in all media and spanning many historical periods. Our concentration is in European works on paper and painting, non-Western three-dimensional objects, with an emphasis in Pre-Columbian.

In preparation for our upcoming move to a larger facility, we are seeking someone who can assist us in the process of accessioning our collection and augmenting our archives. This position involves on-site research and data entry. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and will pay great attention to detail and adhere to pre-established museum standards.

Compensation:
Hourly rate: $14.78; this is an unclassified temporary position beginning March 1 through June 30, 2009 (Renewal of the position in 2009-2010 is subject to funding availability). This position does not include benefits.

Requirements
Ability to use Macintosh operating system; ability to use digital camera, lighting equipment and scanner; knowledge of general art historical concepts and themes.

Preferred
Proficiency with database management software such as EmBark© or TMS© or equivalent; background in specific art historical periods with emphasis in Latin American and/or Pre-Columbian; familiarity with museum accessioning standards and procedures; familiarity with Adobe CS3.

I worked with the peeps at Vincent Price Museum a few times and they are all super cool!

Furthermore if you have any interest in a career at a curator or art historian the boss lady Karen Rapp would be a great connection.
