In balance of the
LAPD's shame roster. This thread is being created to tell you stories of when the LAPD protected, and served you and your community in way that didn't harm, violation anyones rights or misinterpreted the law. Please keep this to stories, first hand accounts, and not opinions of why something like this is beneficial or harmful.

Some cop gave me directions on saturday, he was nice AND he said "Ride safe tonight, alot of drunk drivers out there"

On the way to the Aids Life Cycle, I was unknowingly driving a car w tinted windows, and knowingly, doing 90 on the freeway. The cops were sufficiently freaked out as they pulled us over, claiming their friend had just been gunned down by someone w tinted windows. We resisted asking them if people w 4 really, really nice bikes on their car normally have guns. They let us go w only a warning.

I was on a ride a while ago (two or three years) and I was corking an intersection on Melrose and some other street... This was a huge ride. An impatient driver started to nudge me on my bike and tried driving through our crowd. I wouldn't budge because the dude was a jerk. As that was happening, a police officer came rushing from one side and pinned the vehicle so he would not move. The cop raced out of his vehicle and started yelling and the driver. He then pulled the driver out and cuffed him rite there, then started to lecture him on human life. After the group finally completed that intersection, I raised the 24 oz. beer that was in my hand to the officer and said "Thank You" and took a big chug out of it, and rode off into the moon light...
Even though I have had a few bad experiences with the LAPD, I have had more experiences where they were eager to help. I will say that I stay away from WeHo. The cops there are pretty vigilant. Truly, I feel it is the way you carry yourself with the LAPD. Dont come off cocky, and the lines of communication might be easier...

after i got a citation in error, i went down to the west la station and explained that i thought that this was unfair. the officers at the desk laughed and said "that guy? he lives to write tickets."
prior to that, on my first crank mob, i remember a cop pulling up on the left of us, telling everyone to stay in the right two lanes and let cars through. after he got to the front, he told us to have a safe night, and went on his way.
west la police has some really awesome guys working there. im so glad i live there.

On 328, Taco Tuesday went up to through Beverly Hills, through the beverly hilton, then up to the will rogers park I believe where we did a circle of death in a stop sign intersection with 6-7 streets running through it. Officer Williams, a beverly hills police officer, was tending to an incident right at that intersection when he saw us. 4 or 5 of us were off to the side of the group fixing a bike, when the police officer approached us and proceeded to tell us how dangerous it was what we were doing.
He pointed to the incident and we saw that a mustang had lost control and plowed into a palm tree, and let us know that it could have easily been us if we had arrived earlier and just didn't want to see any of us get hurt. He asked us to please pass the message. Totally cool relaxed demeanor, with genuine regard for our safety.

I used to work at Helen's Cycles in Westwood and the local bike police would bring in their bikes for service. They were always really cool. When I got hit a couple years ago, the police were very helpful when I filed my police report. They even called me back to follow up on the case. Even though they never found the person (hit & run) they seem to have tried, and their response was as positive it could be given the situation. I really don't understand all this stuff about the LAPD hating bikes. There's some bad officiers out there but you can't generalize all police by the bad cop's actions. 99% of the police are just trying to do their job, not oppress anyone or treat you unfairly.

Some girls I know had a bachelorette party. The cops showed up, but instead of giving them a citation they just started taking their clothes off and dancing all sexy for them! The girls gave them money, and the officers did not consider it a bribe. In fact they encourage the girls to put money in their thong straps.

this is not really a "great service" but it sure was "gracious" last night a group of 8 of us got stopped by 3 squad cars for running a red - we stopped and then when the coast was clear for cars, casually rolled on through - ... and let go with no tix. thanks LAPD I salute you.

One time the LBPD showed up because of a noise complaint. It just so happen to be two hot chicks. I think their main job was to take care of noise complaints. Anyways they saw how everyone was having such a good time, that they asked if they could come by after they got off. Come by? Hell yeah!!! They ended up staying till the sun came up! Coolest cops I ever met. Great in bed too!

as I seem to recall, on one of the swarm the pier rides, we were riding out of the LACC parking lot, and even though we didn't have permits or anything, there were a couple of squad cars, that actually "corked" the exit onto Vermont, and allowed our large group to head down Vermont...and only reminded us to stay in the far right lane for our safety...
we didn't ask them to hold up traffic for us, they did it as a courtesy, so our group could leave in mass...

Cops in general have seen SO MANY accidents, deaths, drunks, thieves, etc that involve anything from pedestrians, cars, bicycles, motorcycles, etc ... I would say for these cops, who have seen it ALL, it might be normal for them to think we are CRAZY for doing what we're doing because of how dangerous it seems...

The LAPD have been quite helpful over the years for this ride. Its really mostly central division that is killing the vibe with their aggressive, violent tactics.
