Music Thread #3
Thread started by hatehills at 04.3.08 - 2:46 pm

I'm starting a new music thread, cos both the other ones are taking too long to load. I'm starting this one as a tribute to this fellow:

German musician Klaus Dinger, who played drums in the early days of Kraftwerk and went on to co-found Neu!, died March 21 of heart failure. He was 61. The news was not widely publicized until Neu!‘s label, Gronland, announced it today (April 2).

Dinger and guitarist Michael Rother played with Kraftwerk in the early 1970s before opting to leave and form Neu! The group released three albums in rapid succession: a self-titled effort in 1972, “Neu! 2” the following year and “Neu! ‘75” in 1975.

whoa i didnt know he died. i remember reading this huge 8 page article on neu in rolling stone in the new orleans airport in like 2001.

As the drummer in Kraftwerk, you would have a good case in arguing that the guy practically invented modern electronic music. Yeah, there was the algorythmic shit in the sixties, but Kraftwerk changed everything.

I'll inundate this thread with my love and knowledge of ROCK EN TU IDIOMA -ROCK EN ESPAÑOL. This is Gustavo Cerati, former member and creative mind behind the 80's Argentinian Spanish Rock band "SODA STEREO". He continues to make great music as a solo artitsts. He's kind of like RadioHead in spanish. check out his awesome spacy sounds.

The Rutles!

The band, and the mockumentary, that made Spinal Tap possible. The movie that answers the question, "What would the Beatles be like if, instead of being a real group, they had been a fake group dreamed up by one of the guys from Monty Python and this other musician guy who is a master parodist and a superb songwriter in his own right?" Both Monty Python and the Beatles had iconic status in my household when I was just a little PC growing up, so you can imagine that I was exposed to this movie very early in life. It's part of what made me what I am today! Buy/steal this DVD and you can be a success in life, just like me!

....perhaps I should rethink that sales approach.

Have you ever dug on King Tubby Meets Rockers (Pablos group) Uptown?

BUT, up there I was only talking about melodica, which pablo plays and Tubby and Scientist don't.

Scientist is my absolutely favorite dub producer, he is amazing. Niney is dope too, along with Tubby's other apprentice Prince Jammy.

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear about Klaus Dinger's death. When I first heard Kraftwerk, I was really impressed with the synthesized drums ... until my friend told me they weren't synthesized drums. That was a guy, with sticks, hitting those drums with mad-crazy precision.

Kraftwerk gives me epilepsy. In a good way.

Staying with theme of electronic beats, this is what usually keeps me riding along when no one else is present.
There was a big debate over who the vocalist was on this track.
Some Jackass said it was Hilary Duff, when everyone who's done their homework knows it's SunSun.
Another surprising thing I found out about the DJ, Kaskade, is the fact that he's a San Francisco-native that also happens to be a Mormon, of all things.
I just assumed he was either a New Yorker, or a Londoner for awhile.
But, nonetheless, listening to these tracks on my IPod sure drowns out the noise of the loudest, FlowMaster-pipe.
