While eating at Pure Luck yesterday, I saw what I thought was a ghost.
It was Nathan Snider, bombing down Helitrope on his Red Cannondale.
"WHOOA" was my response, "that Nathan Snider" or was it a ghost I thought. I found Nathan's email, emailed and he got back to me.
Nathan Snider is back in LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those of you who don't know who Nathan is. He was a fixture around here during bikesummerLA. He held a couple of great rides, and was fun to ride and talk with. He gave me my first taste of viewing graffiti, while riding a bike. I did miss him while he was gone, and thought of him from time to time.
It will be a pleasure to have him back in our realm.

Do you have lots of pictures of who was going in and out of Flor Y Canto?
History note for the young' uns:
Flor Y Canto was a lefty bookstore, gathering place and internet cafe on Figueroa that closed down exactly a million years ago.
It was mothballed for awhile and then the guy who ran it passed it to Josef and it bcame what we all know as the Bike Oven.

That pictures is from the bikesummer.org website. I once frequented the Flor Y Canto. Not for any reason but investigative purposes, but I like the vibe and community of the space. Oh yeah, I'm not on too many rides in LA, because I'm working as a Russian spy for the north Koreans, in between monitoring San Diego's bike and liberal scenes. Wait... what? I'm back?
When did this happen, and how did I manage to get my own forum thread? Ah, Sexy, I should have known. Dude, you rule... and I'm not just saying that to avoid federal prosecution. Anyway, always glad to provide some oldskool flavah to the photo gallery. Those early rides definitely deserve a little more love.
Handbone, I'm so bummed. I was really looking forward to your birthday party, too. No need to report me to the authorities. Sexy aready has a van parked across the street (though it is rocking curiously at the moment). I hope the new track bike allows you to catch those vandals more effectively.

Whoa. I just realized that
photo of me was one of the first pics that GloRider Mark took during Bikesummer. I think that may have been his very first ride. There were like a dozen different people telling him about Midnight Ridazz that night. That is heavy.
I was already coming out for the Glo Ride tomorrow night, but now it'll be something, well... more. Ride on, GloRider.

Where had Nathan Snider gone? I've seen him at many rides for many months. And he always puts the logic smackdown on people in these forums. And he went to San Francisco with Stillline and I. But besides that, I haven't seen him anywhere.
But, seriously, had he moved out of town for a while or something? Maybe I am too noobish to know there was a Sniderless time.
I like nathansnider. He's a stand up fellow.

Nathan is good peeps, and he some sort of environmental scientist which means on long car rides he can tell you why everything is going to shit. Its pretty interesting.

Aww, shucks, y' all flatter me.
So yeah, Nathan Snider had gone to Santa Barbara for grad school for two years. Then, after getting the requisite piece of paper and farting around SB for a few more months, he decided to leave that one horse town and come back to LA. He rode around the city mostly unnoticed for a while before sexy finally spotted him and lured him back into the biciculture fold. Good times ensued.

Aww, katiepoche, you bumped my thread!
I'm not back on a bike yet, but I'm planning to try some short rides 'round the neighborhood this week and see how my arm treats me. I don't want to push it, though.
I'm going to the Salton Sea, even if I can't ride. I'm working on some thoroughly impractical schemes for spending all the free time that I'll have while people are out on bicycles. They involve pizza and sledgehammers. Not at the same time, though. We shall see...

Holy crap!
Now, usually, I'm not so keen on missions. It makes me think of People From Utah in the Diaspora, and the Crusades, especially the Children's Crusade, and then there's Father Junipero Serra, who I'm pretty sure did some good stuff (the architecture is lovely) but DUDE.
However. Pizza, I can get behind. Sledgehammers: Two thumbs up. Good luck on your test rides, and see you at the Sea!
