Based on the price and selection they're advertising, if you wanna get the first pick of everything an extra 7 bucks might be worth it.

Another good, most likely better, collection of deals. Read on.

Last Friday of the Month Sample Sale at the California Market Center

Once a month, many of the 1,000-plus showrooms in the Fashion Districts's California Market Center veer from their wholesale focus and open to the general public.

Arrive early and leave plenty of time to peruse the behemoth that is the CMC, consisting of three adjacent 13-story buildings.

110 East Ninth St.

one of my worst decisions ive made in a long time.

4+ hour line in the sun, no shade. tons of line jumpers, no/apathetic security watching line jumpers. shitty music for the most part. then the clothes.

Pretty crappy selection. tons of stuff with huge holes and stains. just total trash. Some good stuff too, but after 4 hours in the blazing sun, we were too dazed to really work for it.

All in all it was one of the worst fucking events I have ever attended.

We had a tamale. that was pretty good.

This was the biggest sham ever. I'm so against American Apparel now just for the general lack of care they seem to have for the people buying their clothing. They want to "Legalize LA" but they didn't even give a shit about the welfare and general happiness of those out there for the event. The probably did just as much harm for immigration reform as good. Probably 95% of the people who took handouts ended up making them into hats or some sort of sun shield, the other 5% threw them on the ground.

Examples of AA and their disregard for people:

1. Water was free to begin with if you could get it from a cashiers area. Then it was 1 dollar (ok, fine), then after another hour or so in the 100+ degree sun, they started gouging us and chargining 2 bucks. Classy.

2. They hired security, and I use the term as loosely as possible, to umm, secure us? I still don't know what they were doing since they certainly didn't keep people from cutting in line any where they wanted. On the plus side, my brother and I almost made two girls cry because they cut right up to the front and we just kept asking the people they cut in front of if they knew them. When they said, no, those people would make the girls go back behind them and the process would start all over again. I kept letting them know how nice it must be to not have any morals or a soul or compassion. Good times. Almost made up for the 4 hr wait.

3. The clothing was 90% crap. Torn, written on, or stained. For the cost of all the security, they could have paid them to sort the clothing into small, medium, large, xl, xxl and pitch things that had any noticable holes. I saw shirts with holes bigger then my head. Instead, they let us fight it out in the sun over crap. And nothing was 1 dollar like they advertised. Cheapest was 2 bucks for "small accessories" which I never saw.

4. Music was fuggin crap. Michael Jackson's "Black or White" was the twisting of the knife in my heart. Honestly, please do not try and unify society after you have treated us like animals for the last 4 hrs. Fucking clueless bastards.

5. No shade. They spent thousands of dollars on tarps for the ground to protect their precious clothing from it, but they couldn't rent some tents, even for just a part of the line? The one for the Legalize LA station had two people sitting under it all day and they didn't get up from their chairs in the hour I was standing near them. Good PR, guys.

For anyone who works for AA, I strongly suggest you tell any of the higher-ups how disgraceful this event was. I respected AA before but I will do everything I can to prevent from buying from them in the future. They said last year 4,000 people showed up and this year there had to be WAY more. At 5 bucks a head, they made 20,000 on admission alone. I'd guess the average receipt was probably 50 bucks, so there's 200,000 on top of that. The only prep work they did was putting up fencing and throwing down tarps. The stage was probably supplied. They raped us.

Do you laugh because I'm going to get bombarded? Or because I acknowledge it?

imachynna
07.28.08 - 1:16 pm

reply

Why would you get bombarded? It's a fucking clothing store and anyone who stands behind them so strongly as to go after another person has some serious thinking to do about the important things in their life. A white and grey stripped t-shirt is not god's gift to mankind. A v-neck t-shirt in "aqua" does not add to your hipster, free-spirited look. It's been done. I saw SOOO many fake people out there, it made me even angrier that I was waiting, let alone with the likes of them.

Bombard me, please. This event destroyed whatever image I had of AA.

Well, it's just that I once said something like this before (not on MR, but somewhere else), and people got EXTREMELY defensive, started throwing insults and I really don't feel the need for that.

both.

hahaha.

yeah, i dunno, the AA thing, hmmm, the gathering of 4000 tools. i decided to skip the entrance fee, snuck in, bought a shirt, then bailed out. once i got home, i noticed a half dollar sized hole in the armpit. i dunno how i didnt notice it before purchase. i just wanted to get the fuck out of there. all these weirdo hipster kids. *shudder*
