the more and more i think about this incident, its really freakin me out.
the frequencies of these accidents are increasing in number and every time, it hits closer to home.
whats worse is that its really hard to find a solution to stop accidents like this other than to just hope that raising awareness actually does something.

Just in case people are wondering why the driver wasn't arrested right away. It's because the Sheriff knew they were going to have to complete a full reconstruction of the collision in order for the D.A. to file charges. Those things take a few weeks to complete. Under Cal. Penal Code 825, you have to be arraigned before a judge within 48 hours if you were arrested and still in custody. They probably figured the kid's not a flight risk either.
They should treat reckless driving by minors as no tolerance charge like its is for minors who have any trace of alcohol in their blood. Fuck around, lose your license.
Driving is a privilege.
I'm personally torn as to how harsh this guy's sentence should be.
He obviously needs to be severely punished. I'm not sure locking him up for life will be making the world any better though. I'd rather see him serving a life sentence of community service for victims of reckless driving.
Only took a year but they finally got through the preliminary hearing in this case today. Patrick Roraff and Brett Morin will be held to answer for vehicular manslaughter.
A San Bernardino Superior Court judge ruled this afternoon that two men will be tried on charges of vehicular manslaughter in the death of a professional bicyclist in Highland.
Patrick Roraff and Brett Morin, both 19, each face a single count of manslaughter in the death of Jorge Alvarado in April 2010. After a preliminary hearing, Judge John Martin ruled that there was enough evidence for them to be tried on the charges. They will return to court for an arraignment on May 12.
Authorities allege that Roraff and Marin were traveling about 70 mph on Greenspot Road, a narrow rural road, when Roraff attempted to pass Morin. Roraff lost control, spun across lanes and struck Alvarado, a 27-year-old Ontario resident and member of the Bahati Racing Team.
