Name this Rida?
Thread started by mr rollers at 10.1.08 - 12:06 pm

My apologies for forgetting. Can anybody tell me this name of this rida? I took this photo on an S & S ride a few months back, I'm thinking of using it in an upcoming show and I don't want to have to title it "unnamed rider" or some such nonsense. Thx.

I know her first name is Allie/Aley, something like that.

Before, I used to refer to her as "Keira Knightley-look-a-like".

I don't know, but she has one of my stickers on her bag. It's the Los Angelopes Griffith Park edition. (just below the Chrome logo)

She's also using her Chrome bag the way it was meant to be used!!!

i find that seat belt button really nice when ur bag is full of dead babies and other things.

getting the bag on onces its full of garbage is a bitch.

in my opinion,

the button and the quickrelease pulley thing makes it one of the better bags.

however, i dont like how it still feels like its full of bricks even when its empty.

fuck this bag. it retains sweat stink.

The seat belt thingy is only really useful when you're carrying like 35 lbs of groceries or Tecate or whatever and you want to set the bag down (or pick it up) without lifting it over your head. Otherwise, I think it's kind of a fashion accessory, but hey, use it however you want. It's the versatility that makes 'em such nice bags, after all. It took me two years to discover the super-secret-never-mentioned stash pocket. Now if only I had something to hide there...

"Hey, that's a sweet bag. Does the seatbelt work? Can I push the button? Ha-ha, no seriously, let me push the button. Just once? Come on. *click* That was fun, can I do it again?"

I took my Trek bag, bought a tactical belt-buckle from the
military-surplus store, and fashioned that onto the bag.

It has a middle button that has to be held down in order to release the outer clips, so ugh!!

Keeping with the main topic, I first encountered Allie at the May Los Angelopes.

Never see her on the Westside though.

matt stilline made a good point about chrome bags once. he said how tired he was of people saying its such a trendy hipster bag and that messengers get mad because only messengers should be using them.

ITS A GOOD BAG!! sorry for liking nice bags! who fuckin cares what people think about it. its a good bag that can hold your shit without having to feel the whole weight on it. so shut up about how its a hipster trendy bag.

yeah I'm gonna end up getting one in due time. I could give a shit less what people think, and if you really care then you need to take a good look at yourself.

wouldnt have bought the bag if you knew how trendy it was?
makes you vomit in your mouth?

are you being serious?

people riding bikes around and getting shithoused is jokey as it is.

who are you to shit on other riders?

yeah, i dont like these bitches either but come on.

these are bicycles sweet heart.

some of us use it as an alternative to cars,
some of us use it to enable us to get fucked up,

Basically, fuck what messengers think about anything other than messengering.

I like the seat belt button aesthetically. Ergonomically, not so much. But then who am I to talk? I ride a track bike on the street.

If you want the functionality without the big shiny red jolly candy-like button, get a Bailey Works bag at O20. You can unbuckle the strap for heavy loads, but the buckle is black plastic and the little buttons on each side of it don't scream "PUSH ME!"

The bailey works bags have the same quick release strap without the irresistible not to push seat belt button. Its just a regular strap clip that you squeeze on the sides.

Best thing about a good messenger bag is the plastic liner inside which doesn't retain the smell of spilled beer nearly as much as a jansport backpack.

@onelessfixie

Grab some gears. Thanks for coming out last night.

On the bottom - er, the side of the bag that's facing down when you're wearing it - there's a seam behind which is hidden a little velcroed pouch. I only noticed it on my bag when it had accumulated enough dirt that the outline of the velcro became faintly visible. Maybe it's only there on some models. Mine is the second-largest size ("Metropolis" I think?) from a few years back.

But hush now. To maintain the secrecy, we must never speak of this again. Burn after reading. This thead will self-destruct in 5 seconds, or something...

Thank you everyone for bringing this full circle, back to my original post.

The girl in the picture is wearing the Chrome bag with the chest stabilizer strap fastened. In answer to Al's fear, if you have the shoulder strap fastened and some track bike riding banana man pushes your button, your bag will just slip and rotate around your shoulder like a giant diaper, but it will not exit your aura.

Great bag, buckle thing hurts my chest under heavy load, and it makes you much more sweaty than you would otherwise be.

Only once people GENUINELY don't care what other people think, will they graduate to rack and panniers. WERD. holdin it down.

Am I Jean? ..nope sorry

The hardest part really is just getting going. Once you're moving your momentum holds you up and its really not hard. It's how I bring all my groceries home and everything. And I carry my books & lunch to school everyday with a bag on one side, and that's over 10 pounds. It's definitely more cumbersome than not having anything at all, but it is not difficult

onelessfixie

These are what I have. They make ones that close and stuff too.And I've seen ppl zip tie them right to the back so they're harder to take. Mine just snap on and off super easy so I can carry them into the store with me, etc. But panniers can get expensive.

At my favorite shop back home the owner showed me a pair of $400 panniers...they were all leather, nice. But the ones I have were normally $50 a piece, got em on sale for $25 a piece at the performance website

I like messenger bags cause you can just jump off the bike and go... but then back gets sweaty and load on back may get tiring.

Panniers.. no sweat, no weight on back. but you gotta carry it around by the handle and some come with shoulder straps... (i've got panniers and a trunk bag w/ panniers) but then you've got unhook things and then go.

I've seen the backpack/pannier bags but has anyone here successfully attached a messenger bag on a bicycle rack... make it into a one sided pannier? That would be bad ass. But would that defeat the purpose of a messenger bag? Maybe to just have more options.

I just read what you wrote above. Yeah, thats right I wouldnt have bought it had I known how trendy it is. But I ALSO said its a GOOD BAG which is why I bought it.

Jesus christ I just don't like to be trendy. take a chill pill
