IAAL•MAF Takes Back The Observatory!

The Griffith Observatory is getting ready to emerge from a looooong closure and will re-open in November sporting a $93-million makeover. To support and enjoy her return to the public domain, the ruthless and legendary IAAL•MAF bike gang has locked down the second in our dead sexy series of invitational rides, this one getting us up, up, and away through the dark wilds of Griffith Park to reclaim the observatory as ours — and you're welcome to come along.

Alas Roadie, I did have a concept for a certain ride taking place on the 2nd Friday in December... but it seems to be a better theory than a reality.

Are we required to bring guns to ride with the IAAL•MAF?? Its just that my parole officer says I should stay away from people with guns or I may end up back in la pinta.

As much good-ol' fun as it would be for the mass of us to barrel out of the backwoods of Griffith Park and storm the observatory with guns a-brandished and/or a-blazing, the IAAL•MAF will be reclaiming the space place by means of nonviolence and peaceful resistance and therefore requests all duly foresworned deputies in attendance be decidedly unstrapped at time of departure. Carry-on.

T-minus 11 Hours & 16 minutes until liftoff and the meteorological logisticshave conspired to provide excellent visibility of the L.A. basin from our objective. We are go for launch!

OOH...that's gonna be a fun ride...can't join you guys this time around, but I've been on that route many times...
bring bikes with climbing gears...
and make sure to bring LIGHTS...there are a lot of switchbacks...if you lose contact it will be DARK...
and do the buddy system...I suggest taking a head count if possible..
there are several areas where you can definitely make a wrong turn so make sure to keep track of everyone!!
have fun!!!

Agent Orange, what time do you forsee us getting back? Are we going inside the observatory?

Roadblock, If all goes according to plan we should be up at the Observatory in the vicinity of 8:30 p.m. The place close at 10 p.m. so I'm figuring at the longest we'll be back at the start point by 10:30 p.m.
But the way I figure it is some people will lounge around the place exploring it in depth and some will be ready to roll back down to civilization shortly after arriving. Depending on where you fit in between those two brackets is how long or short your participation will be.
Personally I'm pretty sure the views gonna be clearer than this from last week's secondary scout ride up there:

So I'll be packing a tripod and ain't gonna be in no hurry to head downhill I'm figuring I'll be leaving sometime near closing time.

Looking forward to you joining us rat-a-tat-Tattiya!
And just so it's clear to everybody: NO RIDER LEFT BEHIND. Mr. Rollers and I have scoped out scheduled stops spread out from the bottom of the climb to the top so we'll all be together.
And one other thing. Don't let the present warm temps of today fool ya. It maybe 81 degrees and balmy now, but I'll be you by the time we get to the observatory it'll be somewhere in the low end of the 60s and falling. So layer accordingly.

I just saw this ride, I might try to join you rat-a-tatting folks at the summit. I used to roll up that hill often, till they closed it to bikers and runners for construction. so watch for heavy equipment... if it is still there. maybe the sign saying bikes not allowed should be removed?
ride on!!!
