Bike Rack Update
Thread started by SoapBoxLA at 08.20.07 - 10:36 am

This past week the "Storm the Bastille" delegation challenged LA's Bicycle Advisory Committee to do something about the lack of Bike Racks in the City of LA. It turns out the LADOT has a warehouse full of Inverted U Racks in Van Nuys and it's now up to us to prod them to install them.

If you'd like to see more bike racks on the sidewalks in your neighborhood, send an email to bikeracks@illuminateLA.com with the following info:

Name of business:

If you’d like to know more about Bicycle Parking take a look at the recommendations from the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals.

Soap, I hope this is something new and different, not the same old do-nothing effort of a couple of years ago. There used to be these postcards that were to be given to the business owner for requesting bike racks. Then, we were told (by Michelle Mowry of LADOT) that this was not necessary and we, as individual bike riders, could either submit the postcards ourselves or request the racks on-line. I tried both methods to request racks in front of various business locations on North Fig in Highland Park. Two years later, not one rack is installed. Tell me it will be different this time. :-)

Also, is the Contact name and phone number the business owner or the requestor (us)?

Harv!

You are correct. The LADOT's bike rack program was given a tranquilizer last year but we are attempting to revive it.

This time the requests will go to the City Council offices as well.

As for the contact info, put the name of the business and the contact info for the business. Put your name and your contact info at the bottom of the request along with any other relevant insight or harangue you think might resonate with your City Councilmember.

email your requests to BikeRacks@illuminateLA.com
